About Kata GearPack-1

The Kata GearPack-100 DL Backpack is a compact, functional and ergonomically designed pack that holds more than its own against similar sized packs on the market. This pack can accommodate your Pro DSLR system with a 70-200 mm f/2.8 lens attached. In addition, it will store your 24-70 mm f/2.8 zoom as well as a standard 50 mm f/1.4 and 100 macro. For the videographer, you'll even have room for your compact camcorder and for accessories, even more room for your flash, memory cards, batteries, cables and personals.

The pack is made from Kata's tough ripstop nylon and supported by comfortable, adjustable backpack straps. The back pad is padded for cool, comfortable portability. There's even a top carry handle for quick grab moments when you're rushing out the door or out of your car. The interior contains padded, fully adjustable yellow dividers that allow you to configure the guts to suit your gear needs on any given day.

Access to the pack is easy using the dual zippers that open the pack and expose the entire contents. Inside the front lid are organizer pockets for small items like media and business cards, cleaning cloths, phone, wallet, pens and cables. Your tripod can be readily mounted on the side using the included attachment straps. An additional side pocket is provided for a water bottle since a day's shooting can build up a thirst. An additional interior utility pocket can be easily attached to any of the interior dividers.

Kata's optional Modi-Vers Divider System can be employed to customize the pack even more. These dividers can be cut to size to truly configure the pack to your specific needs and hold your gear firmly in place.

Extremely Pleased!

I needed a new bag as my old one was getting to small, and wanted something I could basically use as a grab and go bag. So I wanted to be able to haul the basics with me in a comfortable safe package. After doing a lot of research at many different websites (I don't have any decent camera gear stores anywhere near me) I found this. It was one of only a few bags I found that actually pictured something similar to my gear in the bag, and the only one at a price that I deem reasonable. I have heard many good things about Kata bags, be it from reviews online, and other photographers I've associated with. Currently the gear I have in the bag: Main compartment; Nikon D2x w/70-200 f2.8 attached. Nikon D90 (no lens attached). 18-250 lens. 50mm f1.8 lens. Nikon SB700 speedlite. Gels and diffuser for speedlite. Outer Compartment; Extra batteries. Memory Cards. Filter set in wallet. cable release. Wireless flash triggers. All of these items fit snugly and comfortable in the bag, which was extremely surprising given the overall compact size of the bag. When I first unboxed it, I thought I'd made a mistake in ordering it and that there was no way I'd fit it all in. Bottom line: Extremely well made product that fits everything I need (could also still fit small laptop/netbook/tablet if needed) into a reasonably compact, yet easily accessible package. Very comfortable to wear, and weight is distributed to nearly unnoticeable proportions.

Overall great product for the price. Full panel access is a must and having the capacity for a <15" laptop/iPad sweetens the deal too.

Questions about this item:

Ike C  How comfortable or uncomfortable are the two shoulder straps when carrying the Kata GearPack-100DL Backpack the whole day or a full day's hike with your entire gear in the backpack?
AMY P  I rarely carry the bag on my shoulder all day but the straps are very comfortable in general. They are very well padded and I have never felt pain as a result of carrying this backpack. My ONLY complain is the outside flap doesn't zip from both sides like the main compartment, a feature that is very handy. I put it through a lot and it is holding up beautifully so far.
Ike C  May I know what other brands you compared this with before buying this Kata 100DL backpack? Thanks Amy :-)
