Are you still attempting to shoot ground level macro photography with a standard tripod? It works but bring a smile to the process by doing the same job with a Kirk MLB-1. The Mighty Low Boy is like a specialty tool that not only gets the job done but is lighter, leaner and meaner. I photograph flowers, wildflowers that live on the forested hills, meadows and creek sides of the Appalachian mountains. I employ a technique that stacks a series of images of the same subject so that they can be combined into one image of enhanced depth of field using software. My rig consists of a ball head, motorized rail system, DSLR camera and 200mm macro lens. That's a lot of weight and the MLB-1 handles it with rock-steady-ease. In order to diffuse the light and prevent subject movement due to wind, I use a 2 by 3 foot collapsable, translucent product tent that has a shooting port up front. The short legs of the MLB-1 allow me to snug the rig to the tent and by extending one of the leg extensions I can further stabilize the camera platform, perfect for hilly terrain. If you want to hug the ground for those incredible low angle shots plus have the flexibility to move upward a few feet with precision and at a reasonable price point, give the Mighty Low Boy a try.

The Kirk MLB-1 Mighty Low-Boy is versatile and has great stability under high load capacities. Designed and built for macro photography, the Mighty Low-Boy is compact and lightweight and can also be used in any type of low angle situations. The Mighty Low-Boy is a "chopped" version of the 3001BN tripod. The overall length and folded length has been shortened. Major screws have been replaced with high-grade stainless steel screws and a new short center post with a built-in spirit level was developed. Both the standard center post and the new short center post have a 3/8" center screw. This innovative tripod gives the durability and performance needed by both amateur and professional photographers.
