About Lensbaby Composer

Composer with Tilt Transformer
The Composer with Tilt Transformer is the newest addition to the Lensbaby Creative Effects camera products line-up,

Two products in one, the Composer with Tilt Transformer allows photographers to mount any Nikon® mount lens to their Micro Four Thirds or Sony NEX camera and tilt up to twice as far as with standard tilt-shift lenses, delivering photos that have a slice of focus through the image, bordered by a soft blur

The Tilt Transformer provides the foundation for the Composer Focus Front. When used together, they become the Composer with Tilt Transformer, for use on Micro Four Thirds or Sony ? NEX cameras. This provides photographers with access to the limitless creativity offered by the Lensbaby Optic Swap system.

The Lensbaby Composer is a manual focus lens based on a ball and socket configuration that delivers smooth selective focus and other creative photography looks with unparalleled ease. Photographers can simply tilt the lens to a desired angle and then focus with a manual focusing ring. The Composer stays in the desired bent position without requiring a locking mechanism.

The Composer with Tilt Transformer is compatible with the Lensbaby Optic Swap System* and ships with a Double Glass Optic installed. Additional optics can be swapped in and out, providing photographers with a wide range of creative effects including: Single Glass, Plastic, Pinhole/Zone Plate, and Soft Focus

Lensbaby Composer Features

  • Tilt Transformer:
When used with a Nikon mount lens, produces a slice of focus through the image
  • Tilt Transformer:
Width of focus slice is dependent upon aperture - f/1.4 will produce a very thin slice of focus with abundant blur, while f/22 will produce a very wide slice of focus with just a tiny bit of blur. Extreme tilt at a very bright aperture will make that slice appear even thinner.
  • Tilt Transformer:
Tilts up to twice as far as standard tilt-shift lenses making it possible to achieve more extreme blur falling off of a very thin slice of selective focus, as compared to the usual slice of focus width and focus fall-off of a typical tilt-shift lens
  • Tilt Transformer:
Built-in mechanism allows Nikon G lenses to function properly at all apertures. Nikon G lenses do not have an aperture ring on the lens itself. This mechanism allows the aperture to open and close by manually rotating the lens itself
  • Tilt Transformer:
High quality metal swivel ball for smooth, fluid tilt
  • Tilt Transformer:
Easy grip, metal locking ring controls ease of adjusting tilt
  • Tilt Transformer:
    All metal, precision construction
  • Composer Focus Front:
Ships with the Double Glass Optic, Optic Adapter (installed) and aperture disks which include: f/1.8, f/2.8, f/4, f/5.6, f/8, f/13, f/22
  • Composer Focus Front:
Supports the Lensbaby Optic Swap System, allowing photographers to swap out the Double Glass Optic and swap in Single Glass, Plastic, Soft Focus, and Pinhole/Zone Plate
  • Composer Focus Front:
Optic Adapter reduces actual focal length of above lenses to ~40mm (~80mm effective focal length)
  • Composer Focus Front:
    Manual Focusing
  • Composer Focus Front:
    Interchangeable levitating aperture disks
  • Composer Focus Front:
Minimum Focus: approximately 12" (30 cm) / Maximum Focus: Infinity (and beyond)

Wonderful tool. Sweet spot tack sharp. Easy to use and lots of fun. A bit of slack in focusing ring.

Fun to create effect

By

Fun little lens. I've seen some pretty creative photos taken with it and had to try it myself. I just wish it supported auto-focus. It can sometimes be tough to get the subject that you want to be in focus really sharp when you're looking through a tiny view finder and tilting the lensbaby. Just take your time and manually focus for some pretty cool results. If it did support auto-focus, just imagine the action shots you could get with one of these! (in case the manufacturer is reading)

So much fun!

By

When I first started in photography all I wanted was the camera to do everything for me. Now, I am a control freak. And, how fun is it to change the apeture with a magnet and rings. And, the Lensbaby gives such an awesome effect. Don't be afraid of the manual focus, it will help you remember to concentrate on a picture.

Great item explore new areas

By

great item I've used it only for past 2 weeks, having alot of fun with it. I've learned however that in the camera preview pane the sweet spot can appear in focus when you actually have the sweet spot only near the subject and not at the subject. Since the sweet spot is so small it is really important to get it in the right place or the viewer's eye will go to the wrong spot when looking at the photo.

Not worth it at any price

This thing is garbage simple as that. It's an outdated concept that doesn't interest most people.

Fun, toy lens

Special purpose lens. I don't use mine very often, but I do like the results. Aperture changing is a little slow and annoying.

Get Artsy

By

from Tucson, AZ  -  Pro Photographer

I like to use it for photographing people; mostly engagements and weddings outdoors as you need a lot of light for it to work well (it's all manual). I have days when it works great, and days where I can't get a decent shot. Could be me...it takes practice, but I really like it when it works!
