The Leica APO-Summicron-M 50mm f/2 ASPH is the new jewel of the Leica M lens line. Leica is claiming several technical milestones, including corner-to-corner sharpness, a sophisticated method of minimizing color error and color fringing at sharp edges, and over 50% contrast. Leica says the 50mm f/2 is optimized for use in the new Leica M Monochrom as well as in all other M-series Leica rangefinder cameras. Leica says the lens will produce soft, outstanding Bokeh, has an integrated, extendable lens hood, and a milled brass lens front cap.

Simply the best

I own nine Leica M lenses, two of which are the 50mm Summicron (non-APO) and the 50mm Noctilux. Of all my M lenses, this lens, far-and-away, excells the others in contrast, tonality, edge-to-edge clarity, and zero chromatic abberation. And with respect to these characteristics, this lens really shines on the M Monochrom and/or black and white film formats. Granted, it's an expensive lens, which is somewhat due to high manufacturing scrap rate and expensive glass, but the superior nature of the optical configuration gives crednence to its high price tag. In my opinion, it's worth every penny.

Questions about this item:

Stephen G  What would be the comparable focal length of the Leica 50 mm lens on an old 35 mm camera?
EMIR I  I agree with Andrew R. This is a standard 50mm lens and it is made for 35mm film format or full frame digital format. Ity looks like you're mixing up the film/frame formats.
stanley s  this a new lens not used? and come with original box and warranty right?
