LensCoat Lens Covers...
Moving a big white (or black) lens near skittish wildlife is like waving your arms, a sure way to flush your subject and ruin what could be a once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunity. LensCoat Lens Covers mask your 200 mm to 600 mm lens, giving you a better chance at getting the shot.
LensCoat Lens Covers are manufactured from 100% closed-cell neoprene, offering protection from bumps, jars and nicks, with a camouflage-pattern fabric cover. LensCoat Lens Covers also provide a thermal barrier, protecting your hands from cold lenses in lower temperatures. They are easy to install and remove, leaving no residue on the lens. And LensCoat lens covers are waterproof, providing protection in harsh conditions.
Other features include a clear, flexible UV-PVC window over the AF/IS/VR controls and the distance-scale window. The LensCoat also features custom holes that reveal the red-dot for easy alignment to the camera body without removing the cover.
LensCoat for the Canon 200-400:
LensCoat telephoto lens covers offers your valuable equipment some protection from scrapes and bumps, preserving its resale value. It also helps break up the shape of your lens, making it less noticeable to wildlife.
The LensCoat 200-400 features several clear plastic windows over the VR and Focus limiting switches, and the memory function Switches, and also the distance scale.

I have seen many pro photographers use these lens covers over the years, but I just recently decided to buy one to protect my 200-400mm while traveling and shooting. Althought it was a struggle to get all of the different pieces on over the lens, I like the way they fit. I find it easy enough to move the switch sliders through the clear pastic covers. However, the alignment dots on the lens are covered by the new lens cover. I sometimes have to lift the edges of the cover to see the dots when putting my camera on the lens or when adjusting the position of the lens collar.
I'm unsure if the camouflage makes any difference to the wildlife. I'm discovering birds and most wildlife are indifferent to me as long as I'm non-threatening and approach slowly and indirectly. It really does help protect your equipment and I wouldn't go outdoors with this lens without it on. It's also acts as an insulator in the winter making the lens not so shockingly cold to carry.
