About Adorama

One of the most important accessories for each lens you own. A lens hood provides multiple functions: it shades the lens from stray light, improving your contrast and image quality; in inclement weather, it can assist in keeping moisture or wind-blown debris off the lens; and it protects the front barrel from the inevitable impacts against walls, door frames, and other real-life obstacles.

Adorama Features

  • Petal Shape Dedicated Lens Hood - Designed to match the specific focal length of the lens it is intended for

Save yourself [$]...

Took a chance to buy this instead of the Canon hood. I was right! Xlnt fit & engineering present. Hood gets in the way a bit - but it also comes off with a quarter turn cleanly. My 10-22mm needs all the help it can get too keep lens flare to a minimum. It's a MUST for that lens... So save twelve bucks - unless you are just stuck on the idea that it should be Genuine Canon. You would be wrong and twelve dollars poorer... Shame on Canon for not supplying this hood when you purchased th...

Hood has no felt

I bought this hood figuring it would be as good as the Canon one. I compared it to the Canon hood that came with my 24-70 and the Canon one has this nice interior felt to cut down on glare from the hood interior bouncing into the lens. I dunno how much a diff this makes but wish I had bought the canon hood.

Great hood for great price!!!

By

I lost my EW-83E hood that came with my 17-40 F4 lens and thought about buying the actual Canon brand. Then my friend told me to buy the Adorama version. For the money, it is superb. I really like it and would recommend to any non-pro photographers.

EW-83E lens hood

Good looking, well fitting, huge lens cover. Easy to remove or place lens cap and filters. This cover feels sturdy.

Got what I paid for

Pros: Inexpensive, Sturdy Cons: Poor finish quality, fit is maybe too tight This product costs 1/3 of what the branded one costs so my expectations weren't exactly high and I got what I paid for.

Not Canon Quality

By

This hood is inexpensive, but there is clearly a difference in quality between the Canon brand and Adorama hoods. This hood did not thread on very well. It does not have the soft light absorbing felt inside like the Canon hood will. I wish I had spent the extra money on the Canon hood, since I already paid an arm & leg for the lens.

Adorama Lens Hood for Canon 10-20mm Lens

By

This lens hood does what it is suppose to do, it shades the lens in most all lighting situations. It appears to be durable. It is, however, a bit bulky and when reversed on the lens does not fit well in storage. I have to take it off and store it seperatly. Price is right and probably better thatn the China versions.

Works fine for the money.

By

After reading other reviews I knew not to expect too much from these knockoff lens hoods. I don't mind that it's plastic, it just needs to do three things: attach easily, stay put, detach easily. It needs to do these things in both shooting mode and storage mode. After some tweaking, it does do these things well. The tweaking consisted of shaving off excess plastic left over from the moulding process. Once I did that (if you're patient and handy it should take you 15-30 minutes), this item works fine. I also ordered the similar generic hoods for my Canon 70-300 and my 28-105. My experience with the 70-300 hood is similar to above. The Hood for the 28-105, however, couldn't be made to work properly. Recommended if you are willing to save money in exchange for a little effort. I should also add that, of course it's going to be rather large. This is because the lens is a wide angle and it needs to be larger in order to do it's job on that kind of lens. The large size is not a good reason to rate this down. It's not a defect or design flaw, it's a matter of physics and geometry...

Decent hood not as good as the OEM

By

This hood lacks the light-absorbing inner felt that the Canon hoods have. Construction quality is a little lacking as the latches on the mount don't fit snugly. For the price, I would get the Canon instead.

Not as nice as the Canon's hood

By

On the positive side, this hood's shape is essentially identical to Canon's EW-83E hood so for the most part, it looks and functions identically. However, it's missing the finer touches. It doesn't have the fuzzy velvety coating on the inside; instead it's just a matt black surface. The labeling on the outside is a bit sloppy; in other words, the silver paint used to print the letters is uneven and bleeds beyond the edges of the lettering. Finally, the molded plastic (or the mold that was used) just isn't as precise; it has tiny deformities that causes me to occasionally fiddle with it before it locks correctly onto my lens.Bottom line: It does the job, but if I were to purchase again, I would instead buy the genuine Canon hood for [$] more.
