Great upgrade

This is great for those days I want or may want more of my gear with me. I had a Lowepro Sling before and it was great for minimal gear. Being able to swing this on my waist without removing it is cool. I carry a Canon D7, 70-300L lenst (I can leave the hood on extended), two more lens, better beamer, and flash ... with room to spare. Nice outer pocket for light jacket/lunch. Also very comfortable.

Fabulous Backpack

By

I previously owned the Flipside 300, which is a fantastic backpack. I loved the fact that you can travel in crowded places without the worry of anyone opening your pack unnoticed. I recently upgraded my camera and added a battery grip to it. I found it difficult to carry the camera upright in the bag. Laying the camera down meant that I could not take along as many lenses as I could previously. I upgraded to the Flipside 400 and now I can fit all of my equipment easily in the bag. The Flipside series of bags are the best that I have come across! I also love the fact that I can change lenses without removing the bag from my waist (just flip the bag from your back to the front and open the bag while on your waist). Don't hesitate, it's the best bag you can purchase!!

Goodbuy

I am heading out on some extended travels that will call for varied kits in urban and wilderness settings. This bag is large enough to carry 2 bodies and 4 lenses, including, when necessary, my 100-400mm and related paraphernalia. For its spaciousness, it is compact and light while retaining decent padding. It is well constructed of durable materials and includes an attached rain cover. It has two minor failings which caused me to drop a star: it is short in the body so that the well padded belt does not sit on the hips unless you relax the shoulder straps (I am 6'1") and while including a foot pocket and cinch to attach a tripod, there are no other external devices on the pack to provide flexibility in attaching other equipment or a spare bit of clothing. I also use the flipside 300; this series of packs provides the best mix of features and qualities for my needs.

Great mid-size backpack for the money!

By

I purchased this backpack on sale at Adorama. I have used it both on day long hikes in the forest, and several shoots in the urban jungle of Phoenix. So far it has been great. It's very comfortable and fits my 5' 8" frame well. I like the back loading design and extra security where you have to take the pack off to get to the contents. This is no big deal and if you leave the waist belt fastened. You just slide the pack around to the front on your hips and use it almost like a desk. This has been really helpful during some recent night shoots where I needed to change lenese etc. and I didn't have to take the pack off. I find it has plenty of room for several lenses/flashes, my gripped Nikon D7000, and accessories like filters, straps, trail snacks etc. If you shoot with a large telephoto like a Nikon 300mm 2.8, you may want a bigger pack to hold that size of lens. The extra little features like the built in tripod holder, water bottle sleeves on the sides, and rain cover are great. Overall the build quality is great..typical Lowepro quality. If you need something bigger than a sling style pack, but not as big as say an expedition type bag for overnight stays, this will fit the bill just fine. For the money, I am very happy!

Very Versatile and Comfortable

By

In this pack I carry my Nikon D800, 24-70 & 70-200 zooms, a 50mm prime, an SB-910 flash, a light meter, filters, cleaning materials and various accessories. I attach my RRS tripod to the outside. I have taken this thing all over the world and never had problems carrying it on an airplane. I recently climbed Mt. Fuji in Japan with the pack fully loaded and my tripod attached and found it very comfortable and manageable throughout the climb. This is a great all-around bag. As for toughness and protecting your gear: at Narita Airport I foolishly placed my camera bag on top of the baggage cart, and when I started going down an escalator the bag fell off of the cart and tumbled all the way to the bottom of the escalator. I almost had a heart attack. Amazingly, none of my gear was damaged in the slightest! This bag is very robust. One thing I do not like: the tripod strap is fed through the fabric of the outer pocket and not anchored to the structure of the bag. This causes a pendulum effect when walking with the tripod attached due to the instability. The way I get around this is by using a small bungee cord to anchor the tripod to the top handle. This is my only issue with the design and performance of this bag. Bottom Line: A great value and solid performer.

Just the right sized bag

By

A typical, well-constructed Lowepro AW backpack. I bought it used and it was in near-perfect condition, except for one missing velcro pad. I love the storage capability of the bag. I was skeptical at first at rotating the bag, via waist belt to open it, but it works great. The only thing I wish this bag had was something to restrain or tuck away the waist belt when not in use. I'm able to fit my D700 w/ grip, 70-200mm 2.8; 17-70mm; 8mm fisheye; 28-70mm 2.8; SB800 flash; 50mm 1.8; 35mm 1.8 and accessories, so it's quite the workhorse for me.

Shopper  Will it carry a laptop and camera?
QUINTON H  Possibly, but not in a way that would have the laptop very protected from camera gear smashing into it.

Shopper  Does meet airline rules as a personal item that fits under the seat?
NICHOLAS D  I've flown with this pack fully loaded on three different airlines and I've always been permitted to carry it on board and place it under the seat in front of me. I've never had any trouble getting it to fit under an airline seat. Just slide it under and tuck the straps underneath.
