About Lowepro 15L AW

The Lowepro Flipside Sport 15L AW Backpack (Orange/Light Gray) is a lightweight technical daypack for the outdoor shooter who needs to carry his gear in rough venues while maintaining the ability to gain rapid access to it. This pack allows you to pack your pro DSLR with grip and up to a 300mm f/2.8 lens attached making it a great choice for the nature or sports photographer. It will also accommodate an extra 1-3 lenses or flashes as well as your tripod or monopod. Plus, since Lowepro understands that remote locations don't often have water fountains available.

The Flipside 15L is made from a tough combination of nylons and polyurethane and will stand up to moisture well with its exterior silicon waterproof coating. For extreme foul weather, the Flipside comes with a rapidly deployable all-weather cover. If you're a mountaineer, it will also hold your ice axe or trekking poles. It's also a fast access pack with side access openings that eliminate the need to remove the entire pack to retrieve your camera and lens. The pack contains a handy, removable and adjustable camera compartment that gives you the freedom to pre-pack your gear and remove it when you want all your gear in front of you for a shoot. The padded dividers keep your gear safe and nestled within their own configured compartments. This removable compartment contains a handy storm flap to protect it from the elements you will inevitably come up against.
The waist belt gives you the option to slip out of the shoulder straps and let the pack unfold in front of you so you have complete access to the pack's contents without removing it. This feature resembles having a table set out in front of you. The shoulder straps are wide and adjustable and supported by an additional sternum strap that provides additional balance while hiking. They contain perforated and breathable air channels for heat dissipation, all designed for maximum comfort while outside. Multiple adjustment points on the pack assure an ergonomic, feel good fit.

Nature shooters will appreciate the secure side attachment system that holds your tripod, held by a wide flap with buckles. For small accessories, the back panel has a zippered pocket. Speaking of zippers, they all have long pull tabs that are easy to use when you are wearing gloves.

Killer bag for your gear.

My first concern what did the flip side aspect work. and it does with just a little bit of practice. The build quality is great its lightweight to carry all day long. What I wanted to know when reading other reviews is how roomie is the bag. this is the gear I can fit in and still have medium size lens. Flipside Sport 15L AW Very Nice

By

from Canyon Lake, Texas  -  Photo Enthusiast

Well made, comfortable, and the interior is pretty spacious. The ability to access its interior while wearing is a plus, especially when in very wet or uneven environments. My only complaint, the reason for 4 stars vs 5 stars, the tripod holder needs some kind of bottom panel, maybe a foldable or an attachable piece. Then the compartment will be useful for holding a variety of items as well as or instead of a tripod.

A must for the outdoor photographer!

By

from Southwest Florida  -  Pro Photographer

Was heading for a 2 week camping trip cross country including several days in Yellowstone National Park. My old photo backpack just wasn't going to cut it!! I reseached many packs. I needed one that could do it all. The Lowepro flipside was it! It fit a body,3 lenses, compact binoculars, cleaning kit, batteries, cords and more. The side has a spot for a compact tripod and the other side is designed to hold a camel water bottle/hose ( wonderful feature) no need for multiple water bottles. The flipside is perfect while hiking. It drops in front of you like a table for easy access of your equipment. You can easily pack a couple PB&J's in it, too!! Lightweight, rugged design, comfy straps.

Expectations fully met

By

from Portugal  -  Photo Enthusiast

- I wanted a light backpack to use frequently and over rather long periods on my back. - I was considering using it whilst cycling and hiking. - I wanted it to be waterproof. - I wanted it to fit my D7000 with my 80-200 f2.8 attached, and my 50mm f1.8, my SB-28 and triggers, a couple of filters and my hi-tech filter holder and my iPad (first model). - Finally, and crucial, I wanted it to be light weight. I bought the Lowepro Flipside Sport 15L AW, in blue, and i have owned it since August 2013. It is everything I was looking for. I can fit all the gear mentioned and still have a little room left, for instance I can also carry my Kenko teleconverter. I will post a picture of the bag with the gear on my website (mpimpao dot com) in case someone wants to confirm on the iPad fits. If I can mention something I wish it could be different it is the side pocket (where a water bladder is meant to be installed) that I use to stow my mobile and documents. This pocket could be just a little more spacious because although it is quite deep, it is a bit too tight. But this is not a problem for me, since I can carry all I usually want inside and I already knew it was a bit tight when I bought the backpack. So, I can clearly say that I am extremely happy with my purchase and I hardly ever leave home without it or without my Lowepro Classified 160 AW Shoulder Bag for DSLR which I have also reviewed. If I go to work (I'm a lecturer, not a pro photographer) I will take the Classified 160 with me, but if I go out for a walk or if the weight of the fully loaded Lowepro Classified will have to be carried for a long period then I will rather take the Lowepro Flipside Sport 15L AW. Currently I carry I fit two camera bodies and 4 lenses inside the backpack. All the equipment in this list is inside the Lowepro Flipside Sport 15L AW: - iPad (original model, w/ McNally case) - Nikon D300 with a Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8D ED AF Zoom attached w/ a reversed BH-7 II hood (a knock-off, I believe) - Nikon D600 - AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED w/ reversed hood - Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D - Hoodman Loupe (in case) - Walimex Angle Finder - Camera body & lens rear caps - 2 extra Nikon batteries one for each camera

Great Pack for a Day Hike

By

from Des Moines, IA  -  Photo Enthusiast

I purchased this backpack for a trip to Sedona, AZ where I planned on hiking for several hours at a time with some occasional climbing involved. Here's what I took along with me: Bodies: Canon 6d, Fuji X100S (aka, my 35mm f/2.0) Lenses: Samyang 14mm f/2.8, Sigma 85mm f/1.4 Tripod: Induro AT-413 + Vanguard SBH-300 Water: Clip-on bottle...more on that below Other: Filters, hoods, batteries, cards, chargers Things I liked: + Everything fit nice and snug. No bumping around, no fear that things would fall out, and no fear that the pack would give-way. + Dividers are completely adjustable, items feel well-protected. + My tripod and head themselves weigh almost 9lbs, so you can rest assured the tripod carrying solution they have devised is quite sturdy and usable. + The pack has aerations in thoughtful places to help with ventilation and I appreciate that, but don't expect miracles (no other pack will do any better). + Waist straps are helpful when doing ascents, and can be easily tucked into the bottom rain-cover area when unneeded (unlike the 20L which has larger waist "flaps" and cannot be removed). + I had no problems with it as a "personal item" on the plane. + Gear is safe from pickpockets in public places because the only access is against your back (unlike sling bags which have multiple access points from the back) Things You Should Consider Before Buying: - The hydration pouch can likely only fit a 1.5L bladder, which is too small for me on anything but a short hike in the sun (think 2-3 hours max). I would have preferred something larger for a full day. But this was easily remedied with clip-on bottles I already have which I attached to the bottom of the shoulder straps - out of the way, but within easy reach. - The whole "clip the waist strap on and swing the pack around to access your gear like a glorified fanny-pack" is likely overstated...I'm not sure I would ever do this in reality, but it doesn't really detract from the item at all as I never intended to make use of this in any case. - I am one of those people that would like to purchase every lens and new body on the planet and then bring the whole bundle with them for each and every photographic adventure they have...but this is obviously not feasible (or sane). While I do wish I had a bit more space to add 2 more lenses into the pack, I could easily see things getting out of control (with respect to weight and focal length redundancy). So this really isn't a bad thing - it forces you to choose the tools for the job, and leave the extraneous stuff behind. Summary: Great pack. Very happy with the purchase. The blue color is bright enough to locate, but would not be obnoxious (my opinion) in public places (like the neon orange would). Fits a suprising amount of gear, but small enough to hike, run, climb, ski, etc. Weight well distributed, and the moderate size keeps us gear-heads in check when considering bringing the kitchen sink on photo trips.

Nice bag

By

from Atlanta, GA  -  Semi-pro Photographer

Works great for shooting outdoor events when my laptop isn't needed. I'm able to bring just the right amount of equipment, typically 5D w/70-200, 24-105, maybe a prime and room for a flash, extra battery/cards. It actually helps to limit me bringing too much, as I typically overpack. Comfortable and light as well. It was worth the purchase.
