Excellent for hair light

I bought this boom arm to use to do portraits on location and studio. I attach a 24 inch softbox to soften the light and a small external flash (SB-600) with trigger. This boom arm delivers

I was just buying this to use until i could afford something better. I didn't expect it to be well constructed. It's solid, firm and perfect for my speedlights. Its been getting lots of use.

Strong, Quality Sandbag

By

This is long, and sturdy. (I use this to hold a 4.5 pound monolight, plus Snoot or Barn doors on one end, And 4.5 pounds for weight bag with four 16 ounce water bottle on other end). End of Boom has screw in metal eye to hold weight bag, spring clip connects bag to metal eye hook. Cloth material on bag is sturdy and of good quality. Bag has 4 pockets (better suited for water bottles than sand). Other end of Boom has arm has an adapter that mono-lights can clamp onto, (similar to lighting poles, but it can either stick out straight, or 90 degrees -- good for hanging my Monolight below the boom, to reduce twisting force) Much Much better quality than Adorama's cheaper light weight boom kit, (which I purchased and regretted, I was foolish to not buy the stronger boom to start). Works nicely with Manfrotto 124 Clamp (to connect Boom arm to light stand pole).

HEAVY DUTY ARM

By

This black heavy duty arm holds my Flashpoint 320M with a Flashpoint 24" X 32" softbox without any flexing. Well made and very sturdy. The main arm is 1" diameter and the secondary arm is 7/8" diameter.

Worked fine.

Adorama had the part I needed at an affordable price. Customer service was great and suggested just the right part so I didn't have to continue searching online.

Questions about this item:

SERGIO G  I don´t quite get how you attach the boom arm to a clamp (the description suggests using http://www.adorama.com/LTPC.html, which looks like a Manfrotto Super Clamp, which I already have). Any clues ?
Frank W  You will need a grip head (Matthews, Avenger etc) to clamp the boom to a light stand.
RUSSELL G  The holes in the Flashpoint grip head are too small for this clamp. (I tried).

Frank W  The image or description doesn't explain how an umbrella bracket would attach to the end of the boom. Does it have the normal stud just like a light stand does, so that a bracket can then attach to it? Also - which stand clamp do you folks recommend? I am just using speedlights and umbrellas on a Paul Buff stand. Thanks!
PATRICK S  I just bought this arm a few weeks ago. The end of the arm has a standard/normal stud like most light stands with a smaller male tip so you can attach a base mount for a flash. The stud is removable. The weight bag, just so you know, is split in two sides and each side is divided closed with velcro only. This makes it impossible to use sand as a weight but you may need to purchase small weights that fit into the 4 pockets. I bought the Adorama Adapter Dual Grip Clamp (SKU: LTBAC) to attach the boom arm to my light stand (the description says it will hold your umbrella but the holes just aren't small enough so I wouldn't recommend this particular clamp for umbrella use.) There are NO instructions that come with either the clamp and the boom arm. It definitely takes some practice to use and find which holes work best for your stand and the arm.
