Lets re-think this one

Yes the auto-focus works but its so slow. With the A7R I always manual focus. If I could I would buy a cheaper adapter that passes aperture and lens info but does not autofocus.

Does Exactly What It's Supposed To Do

By

While I certainly wish this had the ability to support autofocus, it isn't a huge deal for landscape stuff. The Metabones adapter is small, light and doesn't get in the way. The only thing that could be better is that when attaching Canon lenses to it, the fit is very very tight. So much so that there are actually rub marks on the contact surfaces of my lenses. I'm sure it's not a big deal but it could be smoother. Also doesn't seem to change the image quality at all.

Solid

Works as advertised, focus is a little slow but it's accurate and allows for full aperture control, EXIF, IS, etc. It's a little "tight" mounting to lenses, that's the only real negative.

Great Adapter...Works As Promised

By

from Charleston, WV  -  Pro Photographer

This works exactly as described and is of the highest quality. The only drawback to this is that when you put a canon lens on the camera with the adapter you suddenly have a much larger camera. If you like the Nex cameras for their size this could me a drawback, but really the only one. Great product!

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Does this Metabones Mark III adapter work with the Sony a7S?
GERALD A  As far as I know it will. It works on the NEX 5 and the a7r, and it appears that the a7s is the same basic electronics.

Harry S  So let me get this right. This fits a Sony Alpha a7, then you can connect Canon lenses?
SAURARSHI S  Yes. It allows you to adapt full-frame Canon lenses to the Sony A7/R, without any additional vignetting due to the adapter. Note that this adapter (as of firmware version 30) still has electronic communication issues & causes my A7R to crash every now & then (I had the same issues with a Speedbooster + NEX-6). Furthermore, AF always fails when the adapter is in 'Advanced Mode' & you're using Canon's newer lenses (e.g. 24-70 f/2.8L II or 24-70 f/4L IS). Also, in 'Advanced Mode', when you've set the camera or lens to MF, zooming such newer Canon lenses will activate the magnified focus view (older lenses are fine). These bugs really need to be worked out before I would consider using this adapter to regularly shoot with Canon lenses on my A7R.
