Questions about this item:

Jerry J  Are these the same as VHF?
W.KURT W  No. These operate on the GMRS/FRS (Control Tone Coded Squelch)band (versus the VHF band), which frequencies range between 426.5625 MHz to 462.7250 MHz. THey also tap into the mulitple National Weather Channnel frequencies rangin from 162.550 MHz to 162.000 MHz. Hope this helps
Jerry J  Yes, it did, thank you. We were looking for something to have in our skiffs to be able to talk to the shore and the Coast Guard. Will look for real VHF's Thanks again JJ
Shopper  must it be direct line of sight to communicate? use hunting on hhilly woods
W.KURT W  Direct line of sight offers the maximimum range of up to 30 + mile, but any obstructions can dimish it to half or even less. Deep gullies and the like can be a problem sometimes.
Shopper  how do i program the range?
PHILIP W  I don't think you can program the range. It is what it is. Varies on what obstacles are in the way - buildings, walls, hills, trees etc. Says that the range is 35 miles but it is a far cry from that.
