About Nikon 10x42 Roof Prism

The 8x42 and 10x42 Monarch ATB both feature an advanced roof prism optical design. It incorporates Nikon's exclusive Eco-Glass (made without the use of arsenic or lead) for all lens and prism elements. Prisms feature phase-correction coatings and high reflection mirror coatings for superior sharpness and resolution, and all lenses and are fully coated with multiple layers of anti-reflective compounds for maximum light transmission. The result is much improved low-light brightness, edge-to-edge sharpness, and definition.

Nikon's Monarch ATB series available in eight and ten power models, both with 42mm objective lenses, allowing for a 5.3mm exit pupil in the 8x model and a 4.2mm exit pupil in the ten power model. Each model close focuses down to just eight feet. The ten power model has a field of view of 314' @ 1,000 yards and the eight power possesses a 330' field @1,000 yards.

Built with an extremely durable alloy body housing, the Monarch ATB is ruggedly constructed for true waterproof, fogproof and shockproof performance. The 8x42 Monarch ATB measures just 5.7"x5" long and weighs 21.3 ounces, while the 10x model is only 5.6"x5" and weighs 21.1 ounces.

Ergonomic styling, mated with a rubber armored exterior provides added shock resistance and a firm grip, wet or dry. Turn and slide rubber eyecups, complemented by long eye relief, allow the binoculars to be used as comfortably by eyeglass wearers as those with uncorrected vision. A large central focus wheel and adjustable diopter make focus easy to achieve and maintain, even while wearing gloves.

Good but could have been better

I use this product in my job to conduct bird surveys and general habitat assessments. These binoculars are clear and make identifying birds very easy. The focus wheel however could have been made to focus more quickly i.e. less rotation. My major problem with this product is the weak construction. I bought 3 of these in all and 2 have cracked eyepieces. As a result they are no longer tighly screwed on. I have had them for about 2 years and they seem to need some realigning. I bought 3 of these in all and 2 have cracked eyepieces. As a result they are no longer tighly screwed on. I have had them for about 2 years and they seem to need some realigning. The protective covering for the lens were poorly designed as they do not stay in place and sooner or later they become lost. On the plus side though, the price is great for this quality glass. If you take real good care of them they will last a long time.

Great for hunting. Easy focus. The optics give a clear, stable image. They work great during dawn and dusk light conditions. All round great binoculars.

Great for the money

By

from Mt Vernon, VA  -  Avid Adventurer

Took these hunting in NW Montana and I encountered wind, rain, snow, dense brush, you name it- used these one day to glass the mountainsides for mule deer. I am very happy with my purchase and a guide I was with is going to buy the same after borrowing mine.

Great value

For the price the image quality of these binoculars is outstanding. They are not too bulky and are not heavy. Adorama shipped the same day I ordered and they only took four days to arrive in regional Australia - amazing speed.

Even the birds love these glasses!!!

By

I have never tried a thousand dollar pair of binoculars, but I don't see how you can get any better than these. If you are looking in the 8-12x magnification range, look no further. The 42mm objective lens seems to be the perfect choice, the close focus is superb. Most likely because of the ingenious coating method and primo glass, you get the perfect amount of light coming through at all times of day, the color and contrast is brilliant. The adjustable eyecups are also a great design, I use them rotated all the way out and my wife, who wears glasses, uses them fully retracted.

A Great Name, A Great Product

By

from Winterset, IA  -  Casual/ Recreational

These binoculars provide great magnification, excellent resolution, and superb clarity. From observing Big Horn Sheep in the Rocky Mountains to identifying birds in the back yard, these have performed perfectly and are a pleasure to use. Focus is fast and smooth. Construction is very light, yet extremely strong and durable. The only improvement might be image stabilization, but that would certainly impact the price.
