About Nikon

• Nikon's 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor is a high-ratio 11x zoom lens with Nikon's exclusive VR (Vibration Reduction) technology. Nikon's VR provides the equivalent of a shutter speed 4 steps faster than would otherwise be possible, enabling substantially sharper pictures in challenging conditions. The Nikkor 18-200mm lens incorporates two ED glass and three aspheric lens elements to provide optimal color, contrast and clarity while minimizing chromatic aberrations and other distortion, resulting in outstanding image quality and versatility. In addition, Nikon's compact AF-S Silent Wave Motor provides fast and quiet autofocusing while the M/A mode allows for simultaneous switching between Autofocus and manual focus operation.

I love my AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR

I have been into photography since I was a very young man. This lens came along when I purchased my 3rd Nikon digital camera. I found that taking along a three or four lenses became a problem when I changed lenses on my camera. I tend to hike a lot and changing out lens became a big dust/dirt problem in the environment I tend to hike in during the day. This lens allowed me to reduce the number of camera bodies and lenses I carry in my backpack. This lens allows me to shoot 90 percent of the images I want with high quality results without interchanging lenses. If I were a boy again, I would not mind carrying the additional 25 lbs of photo equipment, today I do. Any photographer using this lens would be very happy with the results at the end of the day. Except for some very special shooting situations, this lens does an excellent job. Now for my plug to Nikon, will you please produce an equal or better lens like this for the FX digital cameras in order that I can use it on my D700 replacement (soon to come out I hope)??? If you can, I thank you from the bottom of my picture taking heart!

Nice but not great

I used to carry the kit lens (18-55) around. I was glad that this lens gives me 200mm when I needed it. But as far as sharpness, the old lens does a better job. VR does help, but for $[...] I would skip this one.

Living with zoom creep

By

from Boise, ID, USA

Most of my experience with my 18-200mm VR lens is very positive. The only thing is that the zoom level spontaneously changes if the camera is on a tripod and not almost perfectly horizontal. I guess I do that type of setup a lot, and needed to fix it or find another lens to work with. I found that velcro was an answer. I cut two narrow strips of the hook side of a commercial grade velcro and attached one to the smooth part of the focus ring at the edge and the other to the barrel of the lens adjacent to the first piece. The strips need to be suitably long and positioned properly so that there is always a region where a piece of the loop velcro can overlap both strips of hook and thereby mechanically tie them together. Voila! the zoom no longer creeps for any angle of the tripod. And the black velcro is not noticeable. Elegant? No, but better than the alternative.

I Love This Lens

By

from Tampa, FL  -  Photography Student

No lens is perfect. This one comes close. Pictures are sharp through much of the zoom range. I have taken this lens through the jungles of Costa Rica as well as the mountains of Glacier National Park and it has stood up well to dampness, humidity, cold, and wind. At times I could use an extra stop or two in speed, but for the money, one cannot do much better.

A nice walkaround and travel lens

By

from St. Paul, MN  -  Semi-pro Photographer

Bought this lens around 3 years ago for my D5000 and now use it on the D7000. It's a great lens for travel and every day, but it can be a slow lens, especially when zoomed out. I still use it along with my 35mm and 50mm primes and macro lens, probably 50% of the time. If shooting indoors without a flash, it really is not adequate, so be prepared for that. Otherwise, for the price, it's a very good and useful lens.

perfect for journalist

By

from Lowcountry

As a writer and not a photographer, this lens saves my butt. I can set it at auto and shoot everything and it comes out great. I can set it for specific modes and it does even better. A friend borowed it for a family portait and then I saw how good it really is. Nikon is my choice for cameras, lens, eyeware and rifle scope. None has ever let me down.

an almost-perfect lens

By

from Omaha  -  Photo Enthusiast

I have the older version without the lock, so mine has a tendency to creep which is only slightly annoying. Otherwise it's perfect!

great versitile lens system.

By

from Ft. Lauderdle, Florida

Love the lens. I had a 18-55mm and a 55-200mm and loved them but now only have to have one lens with me. It is light weight and operates as advertized. Most all my photographic situations are covered by this one lens.

This product has an excellant range

By

from Kailua, Hawaii

I use this lens for just about everything. You have a great range so you can get the close up shots you want as well as the distance shots. It is so multi-functional. I would not trade this lens for anything. It is my favorite and is always on my camera.
