About Nikon 200mm F/2

Trusted by countless professionals, the ultra-fast AF-S NIKKOR 200mm f/2G ED VR II prime lens has captured exceptional moments in sports, music, theater and studio portraiture. Incorporating the superior optical design and features of its predecessor plus Nikon's second generation Vibration Reduction (VR II) imagestablization system with tripod detection mode, Nano Crystal Coat (N) for minimal ghosting and lens flare and much more, the AF-S NIKKOR 200mm f/2G ED VR II is the lens of choice for serious photographers who want to produce razor-sharp images under the most demanding conditions.

The upgraded AF-S NIKKOR 200mm f/2G ED VR II produces razor-sharp images under the most demanding conditions including indoor sports, concerts, theater, wildlife, portraiture and more. Its ultra-fast f/2 maximum aperture renders shallow depth-of-field with beautiful background blur (bokeh) and is ideal for photographers seeking to freeze movement with fast shutter speeds in low lighting conditions.

The AF-S NIKKOR 200mm f/2G ED VR II produces action-freezing, razor-sharp images, even in the most demanding conditions. Nikon VR (Vibration Reduction) image stabilization provides 3.0 stops* of blur free handheld shooting, assuringdramatically sharper still images and HD video capture. Nano Crystal Coat (N) reduces ghosting and internal lens flare across a wide range of wavelengths for greater image clarity. Enhanced dust and moisture-resistance, magnesium die-castbarrel construction and a protective meniscus front lens ensure a lifetime of consistent performance for even the most demanding shooters.

A Nikon in-lens technology that improves image stability by automatically compensating for camera shake. Lenses that offer VR will feature the abbreviation VR on the lens barrel.AF-S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon's Silent Wave Motor, which represents a significant advance in AF lens technology. An anti-reflective coating developed by Nikon that virtually eliminates internallens element reflections across a wide range of wavelengths. An optical glass developed by Nikon that is used with normal optical glass in telephoto lenses to obtain optimum correction of chromatic aberrations. A/M stands for Auto-Priority Manual Mode. This mode also enables an easy transition from autofocus to manual during AF operation. However, mode switch sensitivity has been altered to reduce the possibility of sudden unintentional switching to manual focus while shooting. Select NIKKOR lenses have a focusing mode which allows switching from automatic to manual focusing with virtually no lag time by simply turning the focusing ring on the lens. This makes it possible to seamlessly switch to fine manual focusing while looking through the viewfinder. A NIKKOR lens in which only the internal lens group shifts during focusing. These lenses will be designated with the abbreviation IF on the lens barrel.

Best glass there is

This lens is probably one of the finest glass you'll find at any price. The quality and optics are superb with a smashing bokeh. One of the best investments I've ever made.

Amazing

By

I have drooled over this lens since the very first version but never took the plunge until I reached the point of shooting almost entirely natural light images. I have all the high end zooms which I guess have their place but now I have the beautiful primes, the 24mm f/1.4, the 85mm f/1.4, and now the 200mm f/2.0. I have had the 600mm f/4.0 for a long time but that's really for my wildlife endeavors. Of all the lenses I own or have ever owned if I could only have one lens for ever more it would be this 200mm. The images are unlike anything else. It's so razor sharp at f/2.0 on a D810 that it blows my mind. And I'm a bit of a pixel peeper in that I like to shoot a person and be able to see my reflection in the pupil of their eye. No problem with this lens, even shooting them full length. Of course the backgrounds look like a Rembrandt painting all soft and artsy. And that makes the subject really grab your attention. I thought about buying a refurbished lens of an earlier version but I'm happy I didn't. This thing focuses so fast you can easily keep up with someone dancing around using the back button focus method time after time nailing shot after shot. This is one of those lenses that you'll use for the rest of your life. So the cost while high is not unreasonable when you calculate all the images you will produce with it. Really if you are reading this and giving serious consideration to purchasing it you already know what it is and you're just looking for someone to give you the thumbs up before taking the plunge. So here it is, go ahead and buy it. I guarantee you after shooing with it just once or twice you will forget how much it cost.

A well deserved 'Nikkor legend'

By

I'm a very passionate and serious photo enthusiast with a great appreciation for quality and fine engineering. I purchased the 200 f2 VRII about 6 months ago, partially as an additional tool for shooting indoor sports, but I have to admit a lot of it had to do with the tremendous reputation this lens (and the previous 200 f2 VRI) possesses. I have not been disappointed in the least. I own several other high-end Nikkor lenses to include the 300 f2.8 VR and the 500 f4 VRII, and this 200 f2 is fast becoming my 'favorite of favorites'. Image quality is stunning even when shot wide open at f2. I've found the lens to retain a very high quality when shooting with my Nikon teleconverters as well. A simply spectacular lens!

If could only have one lens -- This IS that lens

By

I am not a pro, but rather a passionate 'photo junkie' striving for pro like perfection in my images. Heavy, awkward, expensive, this lens is like medicine -- sometimes bitter or painful to take, but the end results -- priceless. Wide open, there isn't a lens in my cabinet that can compete with this awesome marvel crafted by the Nikon brain thrust. Natural light, low light, moon light -- nothing escapes. And the images -- pro like. At least to my 'unqualified' eyes. :) I HIGHLY recommend this lens.

Words barely do it justice...

By

It would be impossible for me to compare the 200 VRII to lenses I have never used, but suffice it to say, you would be hard pressed to find a better piece of glass to put in your arsenal, regardless of manufacturer or price. I had recently purchased the legacy AF85 1.4, and never having owned the lens previously, was truly impressed by the image rendition for portrait work. Since the 200VRII, I now only use the 85 for portraits if there's not enough working distance for the 200. Nano-coat, Super ED glass, VRII... all come together to create a masterpiece. The VR is amazing, as is the AF speed and accuracy. Bokeh- everything you could ever ask for and then some. Sharpness and contrast wide open- beyond belief. If you buy this lens with the intention of shooting everything stopped down two stops to maximize sharpness, you're just wasting your money. F/2.0-4.0 is where the magic happens. At the same time, diffraction at the other end of the F-stop scale is not worth mentioning- a feat in itself. As if all this weren't enough, the real secret stunner is color rendition. Colors are vibrant and saturated, and flesh tones are simply perfect; like no other 35mm lens I've ever used. This lens, the 200 2.0 VRII, is a statement to the world. That statement is this- "Nikon makes great lenses. A few are spectacular. But if you really want to see state of the art....."

The best

By

This lens is very heavy, very expensive . . .and worth every cent. This is the best indoor sports lens on the planet . . . period. Nothing I can write can do this lens justice. Unless you are planning on owning this lens, I would not recommend ever using it. Once you use it, you will never be happy with anything else. Prior to using and purchasing this lens I used the 70-200VRII for 95% of my indoor sports shots. I haven't used that lens in over a year. . . not even once.

Versatile and Amazing images

By

I do a substancial amount of inside sports photography where focal length is secondary to aperture and speed. This lens is by far the nicest piece of glass I have ever worked with...period. The files produced are amazing to work with and the speed, color and sharpness for high speed indoor action are unmatched! A hefty investment but worth every penny!

Incredible detail

Although I have heard a lot of praise for this lens nothing can prepare one for the clarity that comes through the first time you see images on the monitor or light box. It simple is a legend in its time.
