My go-to lens

from Methuen, MA, 01844  -  Semi-pro Photographer

Ever since I purchased my FX camera, I have been looking for a lens with this focal length and speed. I'm putting it through its paces and enjoying the experience. I own several specialty lenses, but I' m finding that this lens stays on the camera more than any of the others. I call this lens my go-to lens.

Great glass

from Belcamp  -  Casual Photographer

This is a great all around lens to carry on trips and nature walks with a fast f/4 will let you takes excellent quality photos. I have no regrets. The colour, contrast, focussing speed, and sharpness of the 24-120 f4 are all very impressive.

Vs 24-105L this one crushes!

from Los Angeles

I just switched from Canon 24-105L. You will not be sorry. This lens is just outstanding. I have done many types of settings including flash, indoor, outdoor, portrait, etc. It's just fantastic.

Ultimate Nikon Landscape Zoom Lens

from San Diego, California

After visiting numerous National Parks in the United States, this lens has the best combination of focal lengths and optical quality for my landscape needs. Below is a photo taken with this lens and a Nikon D800 camera body at 6:18 AM in Death Valley National Park in California. The shutter speed is 1/4 of a second (on a tripod), the aperture is f/8, the focal length is 24mm, the ISO is 100, the exposure mode is manual, and the white balance is auto.

My Standard - Hard to Take Off

from Richmond, VA

While this may not be the sharpest lens in Nikon's bag. it has performed wonderfully as the standard lens on my D300 and D800, and it will reclaim that position on my D810 following the theft of my D800. I have numerous prime lenses (50mm 1.8G; 85mm 1.8G; 105mm micro 2.8G among them), but for pure flexibility and the confidence of knowing I'll get the perfect shot regardless of the distance, this is my lens. My last one was stolen along with my D800, and the new one has a firmer "turn feel" (not a technical term), and I'm hoping it remains so to prevent the lens involuntarily lengthening as it hangs on my shoulder.

I really wanted to like this lens….

from Sierra Vista Az  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I wanted a mid zoom lens that was reasonably light, compact with good color and contrast and most of all SHARP to use on my Nikon D 610 (full frame). I found this lens to be SOFT in most lighting conditions, especially in bright, contrasty light. It is not compact nor is it particularly light weight. I could get over that if it was sharp. I took a lot of photographs in all different lighting conditions and at different settings hoping to salvage this purchase. Not going to happen. Although I often use prime lenses I also own and love the 70-200 f4. FYI- there is no comparison between these two lenses. This lens goes back ASAP.

Works well

from Boston, MA  -  Photo Enthusiast

Great for a walk around lens and range is perfect when just out for the day. Behaved very well with a flash. Heavy and on-line reviews did not any problem but they can be worked around.

Great Lens

from Fort Collins, CO  -  Pro Photographer

For group family pictures and bit of landscape.

Great walk around lens

from Saint Augustine, FL  -  Semi-pro Photographer

Great for travel and covers the bases from 24mm- 120mm and beyond when coupled with the Nikon D300 and use with the full frame D700. I read all the reviews and found this lens to be sharp and with good color rendition. As stated by most it is not the best for architecture subjests. Cons: I did not find the VR as helpful as I would have liked, and had to use a tripod (without the VR engaged)to get tack sharp photos.

Excellent walk-around even wide open

from Chicago  -  Semi-pro Photographer

Nikon FX users have been waiting for a lens comparable to Canon's 24-105 f/4 zoom for quite some time; now we have one with even more reach.. In many ways, it re-defines walk-around lens, since most Nikon users might gravitate to the 28-300mm lens, which I also have used extensively. But while the 28-300mm is a great outdoor lens when there's plenty of light (since it performs best at f8-f11), the 24-120 f/4 is an excellent performer wide open, making it a great indoor lens, too. Both have excellent VR, but the 24-120 focuses faster, and resolves more fine detail than its larger-range sibling, even when stopped down. For the majority of users, 24-120mm covers an idea range, analogous to the 16-85mm for DX users. I have supplemented my 24-120mm with the excellent 28mm and 85mm f/1.8 primes, and occasionally throw the 16-35mm f/4 in the bag when I need to go really wide. While I have given it 5 starts, it's really more like 4.5 stars, since there is vignetting and distortion (correctable) that keep it from perfection, but this is a really fine lens, worthy of the gold-band designation.

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
SMITH A  With all of my other camers I have never gone over 140mm, I needed a good Travel lense to cover asia, even tho this is an FX it works grate on DX as well ie D7000
Shopper  I am torn between this and the 28-300. Have the old 24-120 and since I got a D800 the lens seems very soft. Anyone with D800 using this lens? What do you think?
RIP R  My old 24-120 was stolen and glad it was. I bought the new 24-120 f4 and love it. I use it at football games in low light to shoot cheerleaders and players sitting on bench. also i use it for other sports when my 70-200 is too long . I use it mostly on my 700 and 800 and sometimes my 300s to get a longer focal length with a dx camera. If you buy anything from Adorama and do not like it they will take it back and you can get something else.
