I have been wanting a mid-range lense and this one has macro and also shoots normal. It switches back and forth easily and I have loved the results. I enjoy photographing flowers and the photos have been wonderful
On my DX this lens was superb. I lost a little at the Wide end but gained a great deal in sharpness. Excellent performer on my FX for the price. 85mm extremely sharp and very good for macro work.
I have shot the 18-200 on my D7000 for the last three years, and even though the reviews have been somewhat neutral due to the size and weight of the 18-300, I purchased one. This lens is a tremendous improvement over the 18-200, especially the resolution at the 300 end of the range. I'm very impressed with the image quality, extremely low distortion, and color rendition. I love having a single lens (replacing my 18-200 and 55-300) with this one. I still am keeping my 10-24 superwide zoom, but I think the new 18-300 will be on my D7000 90% of the time. Great work Nikon!
During a recent two week trip to Italy's Tuscany and Umbria, I seldom removed this lens from my Nikon D7000 camera body. This lens is amazingly sharp and offers brilliant color and contrast. Below is a photo of the Florence skyline taken with a shutter speed of 1/200 of a second, an aperture of f/7.1, a focal length of 28mm, an ISO of 100, Auto White Balance, and Matrix Metering.
Instead of going on some Get Away 25th wedding anniversary trip, my amazing husband bought this lens for me. I LOVE IT. I'm able to do everything without switching out lens. I haven't missed a single shot opportunity. It's a keeper! My husband too!
I have just began to use this lens and it works great. It is now the lens that is always on my camera, easy to use, sharp. Switching to marco is easy to do. It is a heavy lens, heaviest one I own, due to the great build.
portrait and wedding... The crisp pictures just weren't there. I thought it was me until I took it to a professional photographer who quickly explained why it sucked. My pictures looked out of focus when zoomed in to 100 on photoshop. I bought a better quality lens, $1800 later, and finally got the quality I was looking for. Even with auto focus, this Nikon lens couldn't deliver the quality that I wanted.
This is a handy focal length to have and if you want this focal length there are few other choices for FX. I am using this on a D610. Size and weight are great. Color and contrast is good. VR is nice to have. Focus is accurate. It is sharp enough for most applications. IQ can be excellent or mediocre - and there lays the problem- inconsistent output. It's like the resolution isn't quite there for the D610 although it was a kit lens for this camera. I personally would not use this lens for an important event. It has been ok for casual group activities, street photography, cityscapes and family activities. For landscapes and portraits carry other lenses. PS- I found this lens to be an improvement over the 24-120 f 4.
LIGHT WEIGHT EASY TO USE . THE MACRO FEATURE IS GREAT. THE FOCAL LENGHT COVERS ANY NORMAL NEEDS
This lens fits my needs and captures very sharp images.
