About Nikon 35mm F/1.8

Compact, fast FX-format 35mm prime lens that excels on Nikon's high-resolution HD-SLRs.
Unleash the power of your high-resolution Nikon HD-SLR. The AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G ED draws maximum definition and image quality from Nikon's high-pixel-count image sensors for truly dazzling photos and HD videos. It brings the outstanding optical characteristics of AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.4G to Nikon's f/1.8 FX-format prime lens collection, which includes 28mm, 50mm and 85mm versions. Versatile 35mm focal length with a fast f/1.8 aperture
On an FX-format Nikon camera, a 35mm lens approximates the angle of view we see with our eyes, an ideal perspective for so many photo and HD video applications. The AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G ED combines that natural perspective (52.5mm equivalent on DX-format cameras) with an f/1.8 maximum aperture for outstanding depth of field control and low-light performance all in a compact, lightweight design. Capture vibrant natural looking photos and HD videos with softly blurred backgrounds, even in low light.

Optimized for high-resolution Nikon FX-format HD-SLRs
A great lens draws peak performance from a camera, and the AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G ED is no exception. Impressive on Nikon's FX- and DX-format D-SLRs, it delivers consistent, superlative performance, even in tough shooting situations. Aspherical (AS) and Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass elements combat sagittal flare at wide aperture settings. Super Integrated coatings (SIC) enhance contrast and color and nearly eliminate ghosting, even in backlit scenes. And Nikon's innovative Silent Wave Motor (SWM) uses ultrasonic waves for fast, accurate, quiet autofocusing.

The final piece of Nikon's versatile f/1.8 FX-format prime lens collection
The AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G ED completes Nikon's versatile collection of advanced f/1.8 FX-format prime lenses, joining the 28mm, 50mm and 85mm versions. All four lenses offer the latest Nikon advancements and optical design characteristics, providing consistent performance at each focal length: wide-angle, standard and medium telephoto.

It's not just a good deal

I have always loved shooting in this range, with my 35-70 then my 24-120, just great range. But these 2 lack sharpness. The 35mm is so sharp at every stop. I was amazed at 1.8 from 1 to 10 feet it's sweet and the bokeh great. It's still $600, but all good lenses start around here. Far cry from $1600 for its big brother. Check it out, it rocks. BTW, 1.4 and 1.8 lenses don't work well with DX sensors... Be warned

Look No Further

This lens is truly one of the best purchases I've ever made. I use it every single day, and it works for so many kinds of photography. It is perfect for portraits, but also landscapes and scenery. I love this lens so much and don't think I could find a better "everyday" lens if I tried. If you're considering this lens, go ahead and get it, you will NOT be disappointed.

Excellent and affordable lens for Nikon crop sensors

from Boston, MA  -  Photo Enthusiast

When I purchased my D7100, I needed a lens to go with it. I preferred to skip the kit lens, since I wanted a faster lens than f/3.5 for low light. I couldn't afford a f/2.8 zoom at the time, and I tend to prefer primes anyway, so the 35mm f/1.8 was an obvious choice. Very affordable, approximates a 50mm field of view on crop sensors (52.5mm to be exact), and good sharpness. I have used it wide open, but I generally stop down to f/2.2 for best results balancing sharpness and shallow depth of field. If you want more depth of field, the lens performs very well at higher apertures as well.

Very good lens

from Memphis, TN  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I bought this lens because Ken Rockwell so highly recommended it. He was right. It is a superb lens. I immediately took photos of my Harley Vrod at maximum aperture and they look great! The background is beautifully out of focus. The details of the engine and bodywork are sharper than the results with any other lens I have. The photos were significantly noticeable for their clarity and sharpness, compared to my kit lens (18-105mm VR).

Nice image quality, but just a little slower than I expected.

from Ohio, USA

Lens takes very nice crispy photos. I use it on my D7100. Nice bokeh it's a 1.8! For moving objects like a dog ,the focusing is a little slow. I like the lens a lot aside from that. It's light and compact takes awesome photos.

Amazing for journalism photography

from Round Rock, TX, USA

I'm one of the photographers in my school's yearbook program. This lens has been amazing every step of the way. -First off, it is extremely lightweight which is awesome because I can focus on photography instead of struggling with camera shake like my friends who use the school's huge canon zoom lenses -Focus is very fast when in viewfinder mode. -Photos are tack sharp -Obviously, it's very fast shutter speed due to aperture options -However, there is a slight purple/magenta chromatic aberration in some pictures. -very versatile, from portraits to basketball games -cheap lens but still very good quality photos

Must Buy

from Tinley Park IL  -  Casual Photographer

This product if perfect for portrait shots and landscape as well!!

Compact, max aperture f1.8

from Redwood Falls, MN  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I bought this lens specifically to be used on a visit to St. Petersburg, Russia. I anticipated doing a lot of work inside the many ornate historic buildings where flash is not allowed. It served admirably and continues to do so for general use.

Excellent, Small, Low Light, and Sharp Every Day Lens

from San Diego, California

This DX 35mm f/1.8 lens is an excellent value. Its resolution rivals that of FX lenses three times the cost. The image below was taken with a Nikon D40 camera body at a shutter speed of 1/125 of s second, an aperture of f/1.8, an ISO of 560, Auto White Balance, and Matrix Metering.

Although this lens is a prime lens, it is very versatile ! If you are looking for a lens that is compact and can offer a little of everything this is the lens for you. It works beautifully as a macro lens capturing small details. But is tack sharp at longer focal lengths. This is one of my new favorites! I think for the price you really can't go wrong. This is my 5th lens I have purchased from Nikon and its nothing short of amazing!!!

A must have lens for the DX format camera

from Kansas, USA

If you have a DX format camera and do not have this lens you are missing out. Everything about this lens is fantastic. It is in my opinion the best value lens on the market as far as price vs performance goes. This lens is on my camera 90% of the time. It is my go to lens for portraits, street, candid and all around people photography. If you want to take your photography up a few notches from the kit lens you can not do any better for the money than this lens.
