About Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.8G Special

The lightweight, compact AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G Special Edition from Nikon is a great travel companion, especially when you need to freeze fast action or if a bright sunny day turns overcast. Its fast f/1.8 maximum aperture makes framing and focusing easier, and allows for high shutter speeds and full exposures under dim lighting conditions.

When shooting wide open at f/1.8, the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G Special Edition renders beautifully blurred backgrounds (bokeh). Make a tack-sharp foreground subject stand out against a softly blurred background, a capability especially well suited for portraits. The lens' 50mm focal length (75mm on DX-format cameras) approximates the angle of view of our eyes, perfect for creating natural perspective in your photographs.

The AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G Special Edition is a remarkable blend of classic exterior styling and modern optics and lens technologies. Its focus ring features the easy to grip knurling/hatching from classic manual focus lenses, while its autofocus system uses Nikon's innovative Silent Wave Motor (SWM) for ultra-fast, near silent precision focusing. SWM also allows for seamless manual focus override when fine adjustments are desired. The AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G Special Edition will give you years of brilliant performance.

Great lens but tight fit on D750

By

from Richmond, VA, USA

Bought the D instead of a G because of the slightly smaller size. Ended up exchanging it and going with the G model because it was a real tight fit when trying to mount and unmount from camera. My other lenses felt nice and smooth and easy to mount and unmount, this one felt like there was considerable amount of tension. G model did not have the issue. No complaints on the image.

Filled a hole in my line up

By

from san angelo, texas  -  Semi-pro Photographer

Needed a good fast 50mm to fill a hole in my line up. Very pleased. Purchased as "used" with an E rating. When I opened it I could find no evidence of previous usage. It works great and I'll enjoy using this lens. Very light weight and photos are crisp and sharp.

50mm 1.8d

By

from New Jersey  -  Photo Enthusiast

My D7000 work with the 50 1.8d perfectly and it auto focus cause the camera as the built in motor. Sharp pictures. Always great to buy from Adorama specially on super sale items. I have no regret purchasing this lens for about 90 dollars. Thanks again Adorama. Alex

Cheap fast prime lens, manual focus

By

from Harrison, Me

This lens is a steal for the money . I use it with my Nikon D3200 it only works in manual focus but it's F/1.8 aperture is great for low light conditions. I have used this lens to photograph stars, landscapes and people, a nice prime lens takes better pics than the kit lens that comes with the camera.

Wonderful prime lens

By

from Citrus County, FL, USA

I love this lens. I use it on my d7100 and the results have been excellent. It is great in low light, very sharp, focuses quickly, and gives great crispness and color fidelity. At the price, this may be the best bargain in camera lenses, period. I highly recommend this lens for any camera with a focus motor in the camera (7000 series or higher).

My Go-To Glass

By

from Columbia, SC, USA

I love this lens. Watched Youtube videos where some reviews made critical comments about it being plastic instead of metal. That means nothing to me. This was my first lens, and it is miles beyond the kit lenses. This lens will immediately increase your confidence in what you can do with your camera. You will become very familiar with the word "bokeh" as you use this lens.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Does this lens fit the nikon D7100 and the D5100?
BRIAN H  Absolutely yes for both. All functions will work properly.
Shopper  Does this lens fit the nikon D7100 and the D5100?
BRIAN H  Absolutely yes for both. All functions will work properly.
Shopper  What is the difference between this lens and the standard 50mm 1.8 G lens?
FARLEY M  According to Ken Rockwell this lens is just a cosmetics change to be a companion lens to the new Nikon Df. I've had it for about a week now, covered an evening low-light corporate dinner event with it and it was what I could expect from a 50 1.8 in those circumstances. I've only tried it on the D3200 and find the focus speed to be okay. It's sharp at shallow apertures, but focusing is critical to achieve that as with any 1.4-1.8 lens. I have yet to try it on other bodies such as the D800E, and Nikon F5 & N75 film bodies. Get this lens if you have a Nikon body without an AF-D screw motor. It will work on both FX and DX. I'm surprised I've waited so long to get one ( having many other 50mm's both manual and AF-D)
