Another dimension of control

By

I purchased this (highly specialized) polarizer for the Nikon 200-400mm f/4 lens. While I found it important to pay close attention to the instructions for removing the standard drop-in filter and installing this, I am so pleased with the results and ease of use that I now leave the polarizer in place and treat is as simply one more of the numerous useful controls that are part of this lens. Not inexpensive, but I've found it to be a worthwhile investment given the results in my photographs

THE NIKON CPL3L 52mm Drop-In Polarizer

By

from San Marcos  -  Photo Enthusiast

This filter is used with my Nikon 200mm f2 VR lens. The filter as is the lens are very well built and tops in quality. Honestly, they are both awesome! That said, why the 4 Star? The cost for the filter is extreme and if you do not use it daily (I don't) makes it almost worth not having but when on the water shooting surfers, water sports & boat races or shooting buildings with lots of reflective glass, it is needed, so I sprang for it. The cost is the only downer but Adorama had the best price brake and that is why I purchase from them, they are a 5 Star Photog Company...

Effective at reducing glare, especially when shooting around marine backgrounds. Color saturation improved significantly.

Pricey Polarizer.

By

Bought to replace stolen original which came with Nikon 300mm f2.8. Hideously expensive, in my opinion. It is the only product available for the job, and I think it is mandatory for bird photography over water, to cut down on some of the glare. It seems to me that the polarizing effect is relatively less extreme compared with others I have used on other lenses, but this is just an impression. For all I know, this may be intentional.

Questions about this item:

Terry C  Will this work with the Nikon 400MM AF-I f/2.8D lens?
KARL K  I don't have a 400mm lens, just the 200mm. But the CPL3L filter is meant for the 200mm ONLY; the CPL1L filter (also 52mm drop-in) is designed for most of the rest of Nikon's exotics.
Terry C  Thanks for the info but after going to the Nikon Web-site, only the CPL2L will work and you can't find one in the USA. Terry
