The Compact, versatile Micro-NIKKOR lens for close-up, copy work and general photography. It provides continuous autofocus from infinity to life-size (1:1 reproduction ratio). Exclusive Nikon Silent Wave Motor (SWM) enables accurate, high-speed and quiet autofocus operation. Two aspherical elements virtually eliminate coma and other types of lens aberration even at the widest aperture.
ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass element offer superior sharpness and color correction by effectively minimizing chromatic aberration. The Internal Focusing (IF) design allows faster, smoother autofocusing and eliminates barrel length changes for consistent handling-design also eliminates front element rotation, enabling easier use of polarizers and Nikon's Wireless Close-Up Speedlight System.

Nice, Sharp Lens
The lens has a quick AF, and has some of the sharpest focus I have come across. Great Lens for portrait and macro. Even though sometimes it works agaisnt your light when shooting macro. Even though I am young even I can see how good of a lens this really is. Five Stars.

This is fantastic on the D800e. I strongly recomend placing protective filter on the front for walk around casual use as the front element is very exposed. I also prefer a rubber lens hood as it reduces hard bumps as with the provided hard plastic hood. Also works great as a regular walk around lens. I especially like the internal focusing feature as there is no air pumping through the lens and camera when focusing like the older designs and less internal dust potential.
This Nikon micro lens is perfect for reproducing fine art work. The reproduction of the painting below was taken with a Nikon D800 camera body at an aperture of f/8, an ISO of 100, and Matrix Metering.
This is a very good lens length, it is very easy to hand hold and hand hold still. It is probably the best Nikkor macro of this range, I have owned the 55 mm 3.5 non-Ai, the 55mm 2.8 AIs and the 60mm 2.8 AF-d....all have been very good this one tops them. The only thing I would like to see is for this lens to have a collapsible lens hood, at 1:1 the current one can get in the way. All that said one thing few comment about is it's lack of distortion. This lens not only has horizontal and vertical lines without distortion, but the squares are square and the rounds are round. It is an excellent lens when perfect shapes are needed.
Macro is a fascinating aspect of photography and I acquired a manual focus Micro-Nikkor several years ago and created a number of wonderful pictures with it. However, I was always frustrated by the annoyance of setting up the older lens. I was lucky to find a pre-owned 60mm lens and the auto-focus makes such a difference. Not only do I have a sharp everyday f2.8 60mm for my D610 I can also use it on my DX body as a 90mm portrait lens. I am sure the latest 'G' version is a masterpiece too, but for the occasional close-up work I shoot this lens is great.
Very sharp images on close-up shots, as well a good lens to use for stand in portrait work. The lens is light enough, as macro-micro lens go, that it can be used as a "walk around" lens. The 60 feels solid and the focus ring has a good feel to it. I have used this lens for close ups of wildflowers to pottery displays in museums with great results. The only tricky part is using it for insect shots, such as butterflies; for this I have stayed with my telephoto. I hope you enjoy your 60 as much as I have!
No problems... Nice micro. Easy to use. What you would expect in a Nikon lens.
I had the legendary 105 2.8 macro but never used it b/c of the extending barrel and just too long. This guy is compact, pretty light and really sharp, I mean really sharp. Ultra sharp macro (use a tripod, always) and I love it on the street or in the back country. This is a really sharp lens.
The prominent negative review for this macro lens cites that it is NOT f2.8 and the owner returned it. Apparently, this user did not know that Nikon, alone among camera/lens manufacturers, shows the REAL effective f/stop in use at close "macro" distances. All lenses are rated for the f/stop at "infinity". But the focal ratio of all lenses increases as you focus on nearby objects. ANY lens (macro or otherwise) that is focused very close to the subject will effectively be operating at a much higher f/stop. On Nikon macro lenses, the REAL f/stop is calculated and shown as you focus closely. All other camera/lens manufacturers just keep on showing the "infinity" f/stop, which is wildly inaccurate at macro focusing distances. This becomes clear if you try to use a strobe and believe the way-too-optimistic f/stop at infinity when at macro distances. It's likely that this macro lens, when wide open but focused at 1:1 could be at f/8 or so. This is the way ALL lenses work. It was misguided to blame Nikon for being accurate. I have three Nikon macro lenses and all of them show the real effective f/stop as you close in on 1:1.
This lens provides the versatility that I needed when traveling in Thailand, I shot scenery and portrait using this lens with very satisfying results. I recommend this lens when you are traveling light and want sharp quality for all conditions. Excellent in low light conditions, great depth of field.
I love this lens. I use it for all macro photos but also for portraits as well. It gives very crisp photos as well as excellent bokeh where you want it. Small and easy to carry. Love this...you have to try it to see the results you will get. Worth the price.
