good in low light

I used this lens to photograph my grandaughter's junior high basketball games. It worked well in a typical, dimly lit, junior high gym.

Really worth waiting for!

By

from Montreal, Quebec, Canada  -  Photo Enthusiast

I waited three months for this lens because of a special price issued by Adorama in June 2014. At one point, it was unsure if the offer would be delivered by the manufacturer but it finally came through. I saved $160 on this lens thanks to Adorama. Is it in good condition? The best. I used it immediately to take portraits and landscape shots and it certainly requires good technique but delivers top notch results as expected from all reviews of this lens. I had waited 3 years for this lens and waiting an additional 3 months for this deal was a cakewalk. Thank you Adorama!

Great lens and very versatile

By

from chicago, IL

Just upgraded to an FX body and so still experimenting, but have found a terrific use for this lens on my old DX body. It works great as a semi-telephoto lens, which I use to snap awesome action pics of kids' hockey games! The arenas are often dimly lit compared to NHL games, but this lens lets me take bright, crisp pics at 1/500 of a second from behind the glass. At larger apertures, the skaters appear so crisp and colorful, and really pop against the soft backgrounds. Lens not long enough to shoot from stands or bench; guess I am going to have to bite the bullet and get the 70-200 mm f2.8 and pop that on my D610.

Questions & Answers Powered by TurnTo®

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
JOHN G  It's just an excellent low-light and portrait lens that is very small and light and really priced to be affordable. I will likely never sell this lens -- it's one of those.
Shopper  why would i get this lens vs the G series 85mm?
KEVIN J D  I'm really not sure. The G-series is designed for stills and/or HD video, but I love the video the D series gives me. And it's fast enough for low level, so I'm not sure what innovation Nikon has made to the design. I recommend you eyeball stills and video with both lenses at the store and make your determination based on that, and of course price. I see no significant difference.
Shopper  Metal mounting ring? Or plastic?
