Most Liked Positive Review

HB-50 Hood is okay

Haven't had as much trouble with the thing falling off as others! Seems well made and functional.

Most Liked Negative Review

Lens shade does not stay on lens.

I use the lens shade everytime I shoot outside. However this lens shade will come off very easily when bumped lightly on something. Nikon needs to redesign the locking mechanism to secure the shade onto the lens more snugly.

Glad to find this hood in the used gear inventory.

By

I priced a new Nikon hood for my VR28-300 to replace the one I lost, but the price seemed somewhat high to me. So I immediately checked Adorama's quality inventory of used gear. I was pleased to find a like new hood for half the new cost. So if you are in need of a replacement for a lost item, be sure to check out Adorama. They just might have what you need in their used gear department.

Nikon HB-50 Lens Hood by Nikon

By

As has been commented before, this sole alternative from Nikon is very much lacking. This purchase was for a slightly used Nikon original part, however, it has the same features as a new one. The hood is just too flimsy (very light plastic) and comes off too easily from the lens. Nikon just did a poor job of manufacturing this hood, as they can and have done better in the past and since. Don't get me wrong, it does its job well enough, but for such a pricey item, it could have been much more rugged; not prone to break so easily and stay put on the lens much better. So it comes down to either you deal with it or you don't.

flimsy

Does the job of shading the lens. Sadly, it falls off easily and the plastic breaks with a short drop (less than a foot) that does nothing to the lens or camera (D7000). I am sure Nikon can do better.

Only available replacement - acceptable

By

I haven't seen any other option to replace a broken lens hood but this one for the 28-300mm f3.5-5.6 Nikon lens. I noticed it's a bit loose and takes a little fiddling to make sure it's on correctly. However, it does do the job once secured and I hope it will not loosen. I have to say that when my camera fell with lens and lens hood attached, it was the lens hood that saved it! So, loose or not, it stays on.

Works great but . . .

By

This NIkon lens hood serves its intended purpose of shielding light from the surface of the lens throughout the zoom range. The only problem is that it is easy to become detached from the lens and loose carrying the camera. This is the 2nd replacement for the original lens hood.

Nikon HB50 Poor Design

By

 -  Professional

As others state, this bayonet mount lens hood comes off unintentionally, far too often. Thanks to Nikon's poor design, be prepared to buy replacements. Mine went for a 'hike' in the Grand Canyon (and I'm not going to retrieve it! ;-) )

Not the best

This lens hood just doesn't fit well, or my 28-300 is the problem. It falls off easily when you use the lens - i have lost two of them
