I bought this for one purpose and that was to protect my video camera and equipment. And it does just that. It looks tough it feels tough and you can lock it. If you want protection and I know you do then buy this hard case you won't be dissapointed.
I bought it so that I could send my Sony HVR-ZIU as checked baggage on a flight. I packed the Porta Brace within another rigid case, stuffed so there was little space for the Porta Brace to bang around in. When I reached my destination, I found that the mechanism for opening and closing my camera hood was not working. I had followed the instructions carefully and not plucked out too much foam so that my camera would be held tightly but that did not seem to impose any extra pressure on the hood. The videos showing Porta Braces with tighly packed egggs inside being thrown from moving cars and the egg remaining unbroken, seem from my experience a tad unlikely On the positive side, nothing else on my camera was damaged during my trip. There are very few options for hard cases, so if you need one, this may be your best bet. It is very attractively priced. One tip. Since once you've plucked the foam, it is hard to replace, plan how to position your camera carefully. I left space for accessories as well as my camera but I did not pluck the foam for these. It is best (at least early on) to just concentrate on packing the critical equipment (such as your camera) for which you bought the Porta Brace.
