About Quantum T-5dR

This Quantum T-5dR Bundle comes with: . Bonus: No sales tax either, unless you live in New York or New Jersey.

NEW Qflash 5d-R -("d" for digital and "R" for Ratio)- is the latest evolution in Quantum's proven Qflash portable flash line. The new 5d-R series used with Quantum's FreeXwire digital radio system, now support wireless control of all dedicated camera-flash functions-Manual, TTL, Auto, Auto-fill and TTL-Ratio-up to 500 ft. away

Qflash "Digital" model T5d & X4d are "dedicated" to the latest digital and film camera systems through its own QTTL through-the-lens dedicated exposure control. Parabolic reflectors produce softer, cleaner light. And they quickly interchange for bare bulb, wide angle, diffused, and telephoto reflectors.

Qflash "digitals" are smaller and lighter than their predecessors. Flash heads swivel and bounce and lock into position with one button control.

In addition to full dedication Qflash operates in Manual, Auto, TTL, and Strobo modes. In automatic mode, Qflash power adjusts in 1/3 steps over wide ranges-- from f/1.4 to f/22 for ISO 100 film- in 25 precision settings. In manual mode Qflash displays 19 power settings from full to 1/64th power, in 1/3 step increments.

Multiple flash set-ups are easier because Qflash units communicate and coordinate through control cables, or wirelessly via FREEXWIRE digital transceivers. Do wireless QTTL, A-TTL, D-TTL, E-TTL, auto, and even change settings on remote Qflashes.

Model T5d gets its power from Quantum Turbo, Turbo 2x2, or Turbo Compact. and Model X4d gets its power from the Qpaq-X. It can also be powered by a Lumedyne or Norman pack, for up to 400 watt-seconds (GN 220, ISO 100) auto flash

Qflash power exceeds that of typical shoe-mount and handle-mount flashes, which allows for greater distances, bigger shots, and muchmore bounce power. That, combined with its studio quality light give professionals just the portable lighting they need.

QTTL Adapters
Quantum's QTTL system is fully dedicated to popular camera systems, such as Nikon*, Canon*, Contax*, Mamiya*, and more. Using the QTTL adapter for your camera, Qflash "Digitals" display and track the camera f/number and film speed set in the camera, allow for rear curtain sync, and provide infra-red auto focus assist.

QTTL adapters can offset Qflash output between -3 to +2 stops (in 1/3 steps) in relation to the f/number setting on the camera. Evenif your camera doesn't support fill/flash ratio, the QTTL ratio setting tracks the camera aperture as it changes, providing automatic fill/flash ratio!

Digital and film cameras that employ "pre-flash" metering are also supported by Quantum's QTTL adapters.

A great flash

By

from Woodbridge, Virginia  -  Semi-pro Photographer

First, all of the Quantum Qflashes are top quality pro equipment and are some of the best flashes made. The Qflash T5d-R is their top of the line flash. It comes in two flavors, the T5r-d uses the Quantum turbo batteries and other like batteries. Its power is about 200 watt seconds; the X5r-d gives out 400 watt seconds and use the Xpaq batteries which are larger and more powerful than the turbo batteries. I have the T5r-d and this review is basically about that flash. The Qflash is a "system" flash in that you need extra parts to make it work right. It has a cord to attach it to a battery, but you will need another cord or adapter to connect it to your camera. There are several types of cords available for just about every make of camera. I have the regular PC type cord for my older medium format cameras and I also have the QTTL Adapter for Canon digital cameras for true TTL flash exposure (this adapter costs around $140.00 but is worth it!) I use and highly recommend the Stroboframe Pro T camera bracket. The T5r-d and X5r-d have a ¼ female screw socket on the bottom of the flash. So you can attach the flash to the bracket's adjustable arm with a screw or knob. Note: there is no feasible way to attach this flash to a camera hot shoe. (That's why Quantum made the Trio Qflash.) When set up with the QTTL adapter, bracket, and a turbo battery with a DSLR this flash works beautifully. The light is clean and consistent. There are several controls that will allow you to set the flash to any setting you could think of, including one that limits the output to a range of 10 feet, 15 feet or 20 feet. I won't go into the explanation about this because I don't quite understand it enough to explain it. But it works great. There is one caution I would add about this flash. I've shot several weddings with this flash and the Quantum Turbo battery and I consistently gotten no more than 200 to 220 flashes from the turbo batteries. I used the older Turbo batteries, not the Turbo 3 batteries. I have yet to buy a Turbo 3 battery because I have four turbo batteries and they still work great. The Qflash T5r-d also works great with the Quantum FreeXwire radio control units. I have not tried them with other radio transceivers but I'm told they work with the more popular ones. The flash is very sturdy and can take a pounding. It is not too heavy, but and be awkward to handle depending on your bracket setup. Quantum makes several light modifiers including a wide angle diffuser, a 12"X12" Soft box attachment, and a color gel pack. The Qflash is not cheap, but if you shoot weddings and want dependability and consistent results, you will be happy with the Qflash T5r-d.

Quantum T5d-R

By

from Los Angeles  -  Professional

The 4 inch round diameter light source of the Quantum T5d-R provides a softer light output than shoe mounted flash units can provide. Personally, I prefer to use the Q67A wide angle diffuser, for a very even distributed light output that almost resembles not using any flash at all in many situations.

Great Product Good Value

Shoot weddings and use for formals and outdoor fill flash. Switch back to Canon 580 for candids. Also use in combination with 580 via Qnexus.

An excellent strobe from Quantum

By

from Portland, Maine  -  Professional

An excellent step up from the T2D. This is great as a stand-alone, but is even better when interfaced with the FreeXwire system. With ratio-control, this strobe greatly expands my capabilities on location shoots. I also use this for a portable studio set up, shooting into an umbrella.

Questions about this item:

Robert M  I am considering buying this set for wedding photography but I do not know if it can be triggered with the Phottix Strato II system (Nikon) ? I would appreciate any information about this. Thank you.
Andrew R  Theoretically it's possible, however TTL information is not transmitted wirelessly when using the Strato II. Flash settings would need to be set manually.
