The Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical Lens for Pentax DSLR Cameras gives you a medium telephoto field of view that's ideal for portraits. With hybrid aspherical lenses and multi-layer coating, you will produce sharply defined images with a minimum of flare and ghosting. The 85mm lens focuses as close as 3.3' (1.0 m) from the lens and includes a lens hood. This lens is designed for use with full-frame film and digital cameras and may also be used with cameras with APS-C sized sensors.
I bought this lens coz the review was good then i give it a try! soon i got it i mounted on my canon 7d then all i can say about all the images went out was WOW!
I just received it and i am returning it tomorrow its not that the lens is bad . Its a very well build good lens but i wanted it for my Nikon D7000 and its frustrating that u can not even turn the dial to change the Aperture. Its so close to teh mount that u have to have baby fingers to change the aperture. So i am not gonna say anything about the quality but it is not for D7000 they should mention it in the description.
First Light: Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 Solid build, quick f/stop, tack sharp at f/4 or better, perfect portrait lens, dirt cheap (don't tell Rokinon), manual only lens. The lens leaf is not a perfect circle like a 50mm 1.8, so bokeh shoots won't have a perfect round circle. I for one am not scared of manual lenses. First, set the desired f/stop, then ISO (film speed), third adjust your shutter speed... that's it. It will always take a few test pictures because your camera won't 'read' that you have a lens, so it will most likely be over/under exposed at first. Once you're set, just shoot away. You will only have to readjust if you change your light source (indoor-outdoor). This is my second Rokinon (8mm fisheye), I can't complain... they do the job if you understand your way around a camera.
Full manual lens, the good side of it is you have full control of your shutter speed and aperture. And f/1.4 gives you a big leeway to control the amount of light and this lens gives nice bokeh.Great for night photography and also for video. On my Sony A77... this Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 is 10/10!
For the budget concious enthusiast, this is the way to go.Takes super sharp pictures.Using my A77.....wow!This piece of glass can really compete with other higher end lenses in the market.
For the cost, I am extremely satisfied with this lens. Got a variable ND along with it and it has been one of the best outdoor lenses, especially at night. At first was skeptical about the manual aperture but in the end, I love it. It helps me slow down a little and focus. Would highly recommend this lens for someone looking for a versatile lens just a step below a telephoto.
Use for portraiture, tricky to learn focus, but when you get it, it is fast ! I don't see a downside to the glass. Over a thousand dollars cheaper than Nikon auto focus. I am sold !
If you're thinking of purchasing this product, stop thinking about it. - You know it's a manual lens, and it works beautifully. Very smooth rotation. Auto-focus on a fixed focal length prime lens, is overkill. Take your time to further cultivate your view. - You know that it's the best priced 85mm lens on the market right now. The next one even used, will cost several hundred dollars more. Why spend $800+ on an 85mm fixed lens, when for $2-300 more, you can find a high-quality zoom lens? - For me, the only worry came from it being a brand I wasn't familiar with. I am familiar with it now, and quite happy with my purchase, by far. Mostly metal parts, including the F-mount. - If you don't mind adding like $50 more, get the focus chip. There's really nothing else to be concerned with. Stop thinking about it, and buy it. It'll be the best purchase you've made in awhile, especially if you're just beginning to invest in photography. (side-note. I give nothing a full 5-stars, unless it's a small number of items being judged.)
