About Rokinon

The Rokinon 35mm T1.5 Cine Lens for Nikon F with geared, manual focus and aperture control rings, is optimized for digital cinematography. The aperture ring has been "de-clicked" for smooth iris pulls and depth of field markings provide an essential aid to focus pullers. Optically, this lens is identical to the Rokinon 35mm f/1.4, which is known for its excellent sharpness and contrast.

Hybrid aspherical lenses and multi-layer coating produce sharply defined images with a minimum of flare and ghosting. There is slight vignetting at T1.5 on a full-frame sensor but it is nearly gone by T2.0 and APS-C or MFT sensors will probably never see it. The 35mm lens focuses as close as 12" (30.48 cm) from the lens.

Rokinon Features

  • At T1.5 this lens is great for low light and shallow depth of field
  • The focus and aperture control rings feature industry standard gearing
  • Covers a wide range of sensor formats, including full-frame 35mm
  • 10 elements in 12 groups, including one hybrid aspherical lens
  • Minimum focusing distance of 12"
  • Depth of field markings aid in pulling focus

Fantastic, sharp, durable prime lens

I absolutely love this lens. I bought the Nikon D600 body only after deciding not to buy it with the standard kit lens. I did lots of research and wanted a prime lens that I can mainly use for video work. I was surprised by the quality. Its pretty big and heavy and the results from this was amazing. See my test footage here: Its incredibly sharp and produces beautiful bokeh. I like the de-clicked aperture that produces smooth focusing. Also, I have to add that it survived a very high impact (accidental) drop test! I didn't have my bag zipped up properly and the camera, with lens attached, flew a few meters and landed lens first on cement. The fall was so loud I thought the glass would be shattered in peaces! Instead the body of my camera got hurt and the lens only had a few scratches on the body. So this is definitely a well built lens made to last! The delivery to South Africa by Adorama was prompt too, and I received my refurbished Nikon with lens and other goodies within a few days! Definitely recommended for someone who wants a good prime lens for video but it is very good for photography too.
