About Rollei

Rollei's legendary twin-lens reflex camera with an 80 mm Planar f/2.8 HFT lens, protective lens cap, carrying strap and size III filter bayonet.

On its outside, the Rolleiflex 2.8 FX is identical to its predecessor: It is covered with brown cowhide leather and croco imprint. The lettering on its front is exactly the same as that of Rolleiflex cameras of the thirties. The subdued elegance of the camera is enhanced by the chromium side edges of its back. Also, the time-tried strap suspension of its predecessors is again used here.

The technical features of the Rolleiflex 2.8 FX are legendary: An 80 mm f/2.8 Planar lens with Rollei HFT coating, a TTL exposure meter and TTL autoflash control in conjunction with an SCA-356 adapter provide ample room for creative experimenting. A between-the-lens shutter provides speeds from 1 s to 1/500 s.

Two SI photocells behind the viewfinder mirror serve for center-weighted average metering. Additional features are a permanently visible viewfinder image, parallax compensation within the waist-level finder as well as interchangeable viewfinders and focusing screens.

  • Parallax correction
  • Interchangeable finder
  • Interchangeable focusing screens

What's the Cheapest Way to Get Into Medium Format?

OK. I’ll admit it. There’s an even cheaper way to get into medium format. That’s to buy a cheap, plastic Holga or Diana box camera beloved by the artsy set, but these things are so poorly constructed that they often have light leaks, and their lenses are just plain lousy.
