About RadioPopper

The RadioPopper PX Receiver to take advantage of eTTL/iTTL, manual and High Speed Sync, all while avoiding the drawbacks of line of sight, short range and sunlight interference, you'll need a PX Receiver. For every off-camera flash you'll use, you will need a PX Receiver. Although the PX receivers and transmitters are compatible with Canon & Nissin, each receiver comes with a mounting bracket that is specific to either Canon or Nissin Flashes.

Great for older speedlights

Best off camera flash solution for Canon 580EX, 580EXII, 430EX. Extends flash range and allows use of all modifiers. The bad is that these eat batteries, and start to fail when battery power gets down to 60% or so. Taking batts out after every use extends life somewhat. Not the easiest to store and transport.

Love Radio Popper - don't buy used!

By

Adorama asked me to review, so here goes... I decided to save a few $ and purchase a used unit from Adorama. One of my Popper receivers had failed me - not sure why yet, but it just stopped working. Anyway, the used unit arrived with dead batteries and with a defective Canon bracket. The receiver itself worked when I put good batteries in it, but I seriously expected to get "used" equipment, and not "defective" equipment. Since they gave me a full refund (including shipping), I will buy a brand new unit from them this time.

When they work, they're great.

When these work, they're great. When they don't, it can make you look like an idiot in front of a client and leave you looking for another solution. These little guys have a very specific order in which they must be turned on relative to your flashes and camera in order to work properly. They always seem to work when I'm just playing around with them (after several minutes of turning things off and on and various orders), but when I'm on a job, I can never seem to get them to work. That, of course, is embarrassing when you're trying to do a portrait shoot, or wasting a business person's time while trying to conduct a corporate headshot session. Bottom line, I don't think I would buy these again. They are in my gear bag when I go to a shoot, but I never count on them working and always have to have a backup plan.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
RON P  I like the long range and simple set up. It passes on all of the instructions that the camera sends to flash.
Jeff S  I am seriously considering buying these. 1 trans and 2 receivers. I run 430exii canon flashes. I have two questions. First, will the provided mount fit on my flashes as they are obviously smaller than the 580? Second, Do I have to have one of my flashes mounted on my camera to use the transmitter or can it be used on the camera as a stand alone so that all of my flashes can be used off camera with the system? Ok, 3 questions...If I can use the transmitter on the camera as a stand alone (without flash attached to the camera) will I need to buy any cords or anything to make it function?
ROBERT P  1st question. The brackets you get are able to be used with theCanon 550ex, and the 580ex,. the 430ex l / ll and the 580ex ll. You do have to have a flash (master) mounted on your camera so that the settings you choose are picked up by the transmitter to send to the slaves. As for your 3rd question when I bought mine you could not use the transmitter as a stand alone. Radio Popper's phone number is 1-360-713-0776. They are helpful if you need any more info. I shot my nephew's daughter's wedding with them using an umbrella and my 580ex lland I have no regrets. They were great for off camers flash. Hope this helps you.
Shopper  does the PX system work with the new canon 600ex-rt flash?
ROBERT P  I have the canon 580 ex ll which the radio poppers will work. As for the canon 600 I believe the 600 has its own radio signals. I would call canon and ask them just to be sure. Hope this helps.
