Unreliable unit

By

from St. Louis, Mo.  -  Casual User

I had high hopes for this unit. However, I did purchase it with some fear due to some negative reviews. My initial unit worked perfectly for about 2 days then failed. It would record video but not audio and then the remote stopped working. I was sent a new unit and controler. It worked about 2 days then the audio became distorted and the remote stopped working. Tech support tried to help but couldn't solve the problem. They just said it was a new unit and may take a few years before it is perfect. I am planning to purchse TiVo which is rated 4 plus stars. The monthly charge has been reduced. I want to mention Adorama was very easy to work with. I have a high regard for them. I am getting a full refund.

Specs may be deceiving.

This DVR did not completely live up to my expectations. Yes, it does have dual tuners. Yes, you can pause, fast forward, rewind. But what I (and many other buyers I suspect)found is that even though it has dual tuners you can not record two shows at the same time. Also the pause, fast forward, and rewind can only be used on a recorded program. Live shows do not have this feature. Clearer product features are needed.

Questions about this item:

Mike M  Does it have auto scan? Can you delete subchannels w/o losing the main channels with air/antenna TV? that is - say you have channels 23.1,23.2, 23.3 and 23.4 scanned and in it. Can you then delete 23.3 w/o losing all of them?
FREDERICK E  Has channel scan for analog and digital channels. Also has channel edit, where individual subchannels can be turned off. For instance, I always delete 61-2 (QUBO) because it's only kiddie cartoons. Same for the ones that are not English speaking. Unit will automatically pick up new channels when they first broadcast. Problem I have is it occasionally drops channels, so I recommend having a listing from TVFOOL.COM so you know which real channel number is which digital channel (i. e., 57-1 is really UHF 32). That's how I recover a lost channel. Good luck, I'm pretty satisfied with the unit - but support is terrible.

Shopper  Format and Archiving: (1) What format are the recordings (AVI, MKV, Mts, etc.); and (2) Can one copy recordings from the internal disk to an external disc? (i.e. usb flash drive or external hard drive)
PAUL B  It saves in .mp4 format. You use a usb drive to download your content. I am using a 500 GB drive to download. It you have a file that is over 4 GB, you have to format a USB stick to NTFS and is works perfectly. I am using it to record my old vhs tapes to digital - It is nice that you can input anything to it via RCA composite input. I have herd it will not allow you to freeze live shows (like a DVR) - but I have not tried it. The user interface is a little clunky. It looks like the software was written in Russa in 1999. The hardware seems solid, it has nice ability. The software could be better. Hope this helps Paul
