This is my first flat panel LED TV. I looked at Samsung and Sony TV's before purchasing LG. My son had purchased a 40" LG TV. His was a basic model. I was impressed with the picture sharpness. The sharpness on my 42" LE5400 model does not seem to be quite as good. It took quite a few adjustments to get it better. There are so many choices. Connected my DVD player in couple minutes. No problem. Not so with trying to connect my Panasonic VCR. Overall I am satisfied with the purchase [...]. There was no damages on the exterior carton. The TV is extremely well packed. It has outside box and second box inside with styro foam blocks in between

[...] At each store the TV looked amazing, good crisp color, no bad viewings, etc. BUT, upon delivery and setup of this TV, I noticed the picture quality was nothing like what I saw in stores, viewing angle is horrible, fast action was ghosting / blurry. After doing more research that night I found out LG decided to use two different LCD panels in this model, a very good quality IPS LCD panel, and a sub-par Variable Angle TN LCD Panel. Reading more I found the only way to tell besides opening the box and turning the set on was to look at the item code on the outside of the box. If you receive a 42LE5400-UC.AUSD*** model you are not going to be happy with what you see. BUT if you received a 42LE5400-UC.AUSW*** you win, the picture will be excellent! Sadly, I received the AUSD from Adorama. So, with this TV you are basically playing the lottery with what you are purchasing, and the odds seem to be stacked against you. On top of that, Adorama's "Outstanding" online TV return policy basically means you're stuck with what you get. I would not even chance buying this TV from them unless you can purchase in person because real life people get a return policy whereas Internet people get zip.

This product delivers all that is expected from an LED TV in this price range: great picture quality, good sound, easy setup and an unbelievably thin panel (thanks to LED edge-lit technology). The surprise is how useful and well integrated the Net apps (called Netcast Entertainment) are: youtube, netflix, picasa, weather, news, etc. The down side: Netcast Entertainment will not work unless you buy a LG WiFi dongle (around $50), which is odd to say the least...

PROS:Price (hard to find a LED TV with these features @ this price)LED backlighting (CCFL requires more energy/has thermal heat emissions/takes 2-3 times longer to start)Picture quality is more than acceptable for my needsRazor thin and super light weight due to LED designPeripheral (178 degree angle) viewing is very good (much better than my previous LCDs)Has noise leveling sound for those annoying commercials4 HDMI inputs & 3 Component inputsPC input/LAN port/wireless capable (need dongle for wireless)2 USB 2.0 ports ("A" female) can recognize/play JPEG, MPEG4 & DivX files on a flash driveMultiple factory presets for aspect ratio/picture/AV modes (adequate for most viewers, yet also can be manually tweaked as desired)User friendly menus and setupStandard 200mm x 200mm VESA mounting (allows for a wide variety of mount options)CONS:No Pic in Pic (could be an issue for some)Need LG proprietary dongle for wireless (no internal wireless card and non-LG dongles aren't compatible)Only one RF coaxial in, no S-video in, only one standard composite AV in (can use gender cable on side for 2nd AV in) and no composite AV out, the only audio outs are optical (digital) & headphone (could be an issue with older Tivo/CD/DVD/VCR/Home Theater/Set-Top Box systems)Remote control does not control other external devicesOTHER THOUGHTS:[...]Sound is adequate for most viewing (recommend home theater for great sound/movie time/extreme gaming)Discerning high-end Gamers will probably notice an input/response lag in certain games (not sure if this can be tweaked in the video settings, probably requires a software/firmware update)Blacks are not completely deep throughout (area on right grays out ever so slightly at times)Laptop gets better quality with D-sub (VGA) than HDMI input, but you'll need a workaround (external audio device to get the audio from your PC if you use VGA)Have not used Widgets yet. (Still need to get LG dongle or run a LAN line to TV room; not a big deal)TV is too new to comment on reliability (so far, so good, but will buy an extended warranty in time.)Final Note: none of my nits are deal breakers. I researched the TV prior to purchase, so I knew exactly what I was getting. Bottom line is I got a heck of a lot more TV & features than what I got with my name brand 4 yr. old 40" CCFL LCD for less than half the price I paid back then.

I did a LOT of research before I purchased this TV, and the only real drawback I read about was the sound quality - but I don't know what these people were thinking it is VERY loud for my living room. Maybe I was just used to my cheap TV I had...Also turning on the "True Voice" setting made the sound really leap out. Setup was a snap, and Blu Ray was CRYSTAL clear - it scared my wife a little LOL! Also the sound was very imersive. Controls are easy to use. The only drawback is the clarity on HD through my cable company - there is some pixelation and I can only think it is the signal from Time Warner. [...]
