Comments about GiSTEQ GiSTEQ CD111 GPS Digital Photo Tracker for Digital Camera with NEMERIX Low Power Chipset:

Using product to geotag wildlife photography. It does work, and the coordinates are written to the exif of my RAW Nikon .NEF files. However, the ability to know what the unit is doing and to understand the blinking lights is limited at best. The software interface is possibly the worst I have ever used, and while it does get the job done, it is a series of ridiculous steps that create files and files and files all outside of my workflow and with a terrible, non-intuitive interface. It does, so far, work for my needs and it is better than physically tethering my Garmin GPS Map60csx to my Nikon D300 (I still carry it with me in case I want a sure thing as backup). I also have issues with connecting it to my computer as it seems to automatically turn on when plugged in to charge, then it won't turn off unless you pull the battery. But, if you turn it on first, then plug it in, it is able to be unplugged and turned off. Quite weird.

Comments about GiSTEQ GiSTEQ CD111 GPS Digital Photo Tracker for Digital Camera with NEMERIX Low Power Chipset:

While I usually know where I'm at (regardless of what my wife says) I got this because I'll be going on a cruise later this year. I'm glad I got it in advance and played with it. While the acquisition time is adequate and the accuracy is fantastic, the software blows. You have to pay $20 more to get the Pro version in order to work with any sort of RAW file format (e.g. DNG). Or you can download GeoSetter for free from someone else.

Comments about GiSTEQ GiSTEQ CD111 GPS Digital Photo Tracker for Digital Camera with NEMERIX Low Power Chipset:

I bought the unit for a trip to Cancun so I can later tag the photos to the locations I visited. Prior to the trip, I installed the software and testing things out.

The pros - it works as advertised.
The cons -
* The controls are bizzare. They use flashing lights to show status. Why??? Why on Earth would I associate alternating flashing red and green as synced with satellites?
* The software is unstable. I currently have the software on a traveling laptop for the trip. I crashes routinely. My first day's data was wiped clean after a required "firmware" upgrade.
* It talks -- WHY??? This is SO annoying. Just what I need is for a bus full of strangers to know that my GPS is positioning or synced. Useless. also - every button makes a loud audible 4 tone sequence. EXTREMELY annoying. Yes, you an turn it off -- but on in the middle of Mexico with my instructions at home that isn't much consolation. Plus, there's no alternative method to convey status besides flashing lights and beeps, and a loud "Satellites Synced" message.

Bottom line, ok, it works but usability is not up to prime time. It has all the qualities of a product hacked together from something else to repurpose for the consumer market.

I recommend you DO NOT buy this product.
