I've bought this unit before my trip to Madrid, Spain, Dec 27, 2008-Jan 3, 2009.[...] When I have arrived in Madrid after I have rented the car, I've started to use it. It took some time to get used to it since this was the first time I was using a GPS system. But I've adjusted. Thank God for the runabouts!!! When you get lost or miss a turn the satellite reception needs to adjust faster so you might need to pull over for that. That is why I've put a Con mark on the review about the satellite reception. It took a little too long to get the new satellite reception information. I've only had one problem with one rural address outside Madrid towards Alicante but I've used Google maps directions as a back up to get to the address. Returning from the address, the 770 help me get to my Madrid address easily. I didn't try another rural address so I might be a little biased. I intend to travel to Europe again this summer so I will be using the GPS again but I will have to have a back up map or Google maps directions. I've used the unit a few times in Los Angeles area and I am very satisfied with the directions I was given. But I have lived in Los Angeles area for about 24 years so I know how to get to most of the places. I will use the unit to discover other attractions when I will drive to a destination. I am using the unit as a Media Player through the car stereo system with no problems. I am working on using the unit with a Bluetooth cellular phone. I hope the performance will be without any deficiencies. Garmin is a reputable company with reputable products. I own the 350 model of their stopwatch line too. The investment is well worth it because you can update the maps or add maps to the memory. Happy Trails!!!

Downloading and installing the (included) 2009 map set was a semi-nightmare. The instructions weren't accurate, and omitted things like "your screen will go blank for half an hour" which doesn't exactly inspire confidence in what's happening. Although I could figure things out ultimately, it wasn't easy. Moreover, the initial download took FOUR HOURS followed by upload to the device which took another 2 1/2 hours. This routine is the only reason I didn't give the device 5 stars.

The 770 is good for navigating to a location but is poor at best for showing any map detail enroute. E.g. it does not give a clue to towns, cities, attractions, landmarks or anything else along a chosen route when headed to a destination. It does show cross streets and highways but little else. Navigation through a vacuum.

Maps are not as accurate or up to date as expected. Often the map lags actual progress of the car.
