Comments about Leica Leica Televid 77, 77mm Straight, Waterproof Spotting Scope - USA:

I bought this from Adorama in 2003 and have been thrilled with the scope for most of the birding that I do. I use it with the 40x wide angle eyepiece which is remarkable in clarity edge to edge. The only problem I had was that the eyepiece needs to be threaded about 1/2 inch beyond its indicated lock - just tighten it fairly hard. Never had to retighten it at all. This may have been corrected since I bought it.
I use it for everything except hawk migrations when I am on a mountain top. On the hawk watches, Cape May, Kiptopeke, etc. it comes it handy when things are slow so the horizon can be scanned. Like any scope heat shimmer is a problem in distance viewing. To really see how good this scope is try viewing a bird within 20-100 feet - the detail and color are as good as any scope made.
It really is waterproof, I have spent long days in heavy rain without a problem other than slight fogging once or twice. I also love the guarantee where Leica will repair or replace the scope no matter what. Run over it with your car and it is covered.
It was an investment for me to get this scope, and I have no doubt that I will be using it for many years to come.Well worth the price.
