I purchased mine shortly after they came out - and shortly after I picked them up in a store. The somewhat different shape makes them easy to hold and focus with one hand. They actually work better (for me) with glasses than without. The eye relief is incredible. While I haven't seriously tested their waterproof, fog-proof, and shock resistance nature, they seem built like a tank. Simply the best binoculars I have ever used.

These are remarkable binoculars and they really show their strength at dusk. With the bare eye, a distant row of trees looks like a grey blur, but through these ELs, you can see texture and color. It almost pops out at you. They are fantastic for birding. A bit heavy, but the other brands with 42 mm objectives are the same. Highly recommended.

Think of all those star-studded reviews you've ever read about these binoculars. Ever had any doubts about them? Well, I can tell you, they're all true (the reviews, that is) ! In nearly 40 years of bird-watching/photography, I've never come across anything quite like these, and believe me, I've tried 'em all!
I never thought I'd ever find anything to surpass my old Zeiss porro's,
but after having experienced the phenomenal Swarovski ATS 65 HD spotting scope, (also incomparable) I decided to purchase these binos.
For those wearing glasses, the eye relief has to be one of the most outstanding features, allowing a full field of view even when held away from your glasses.
I've had the opportunity to use all three of the recognized top German/Austrian makers through bird clubs here in Japan, but in all honesty, only glasses from Nikon gave these Swarovski's a run for their money. Although it all comes down to personal preference, the image of the Zeiss Victory's and Leica Ultravids seemed either too warm or cold for me (and certainly don't sit so comfortably in large hands). The Swarovski's image is so neutral (spotting scopes included) that you don't realize they are there!
I couldn't possibly rate anything higher. An optical marvel.

Tried out a friend's pair of 8.5x42 EL's in 2001. Pinpoint stars during night viewing. Been wanting a pair ever since.
Sky's been cloudy at night since I got them. So, I tried them in the morning for birding. Incredible. Colors, clarity, tack-sharp images. Lightweight, and professionally-built in every respect. Tethered eyepieces make for ease of use.
One of the reasons for the incredible images, is that I can focus (dioptic) each eyepiece for my eyes. No other binocular I've used permitted that.
I would recommend these binoculars to anyone wanting the very best in optics. Spendy, but worth it.

if you want to spend a lot of money, go right ahead but first check out the Bushnell ELITE or Nikon LX. Just as good and your eyes won't see a difference.
