Description seems to be mixed up. According to Hoodman, the "H-EYEC18 is for most Canon SLR Models; Excluding 1DS MARK III & CANON 1D MARK III models. Excluding 5D & 5D Mark II Models".So, it DOES fit the 1D, 1DS up to Mark IIN. I bought the 22mm as per Adorama's product description for my 1D Mark IIN and it is too large. [...] So double check Hoodman's website to find your correct size before ordering.

The eye piece simply slides on over the viewfinder and snaps in place--it can't accidentally come off. It fits my eye well and does a good job of blocking out light and distractions so I can easily see the image in the viewfinder. I think it's designed for use on the right eye, but I routinely twist mine around and use it on my left eye. It's one of the cheapest camera accessories I've bought, but it's near the top of my list of "best purchases." I would highly recommend it.

I was always loosing my regular eye piece because I wear glasses and putting it in and out of my bag.
This solves both issue well worth the buy

I bought this to replace the original eyepiece that came with my Canon EOS Rebel XSi/450D, and I'm glad I did. With the original eyepiece, at times it was too bright to get a good look at what you were shooting at; however, with the Hoodeye, it helps cup your eye and block out extra light.

The lower portion of the eye cup obstructs your view of the upper portion of the LCD screen. In addition I did not find that the eyecup covered my eye well and I am removing it and replacing with the original rubber piece.

Does a great job of blocking out light to allow precise focus, but on the Rebel Xt it blocks out part of the screen on the back of the camera. It does change from portrait to landscape very quickly.

The Hoodman 18mm HoodEye slipped on
to my Canon 450D like a glove and it fits SECURELY. In the past, I have lost multiple Canon eyepieces which simply slip off. The HoodEye fits well against my corrective lenses and provides a much better view of the internal display. This is a MUST HAVE accessory for Canon DSLRs.
