This really helps my old eyes to get a sharp picture. When I place my camera on the ground to take a picture it makes it so much easier to look at the subject.

Didn't like it

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I used it on a D70. I found it a bit dim. The attachment to the camera is not as secure as a manufacture branded viewer because of the need for adapters. The diopter adjustment seemed to vary between 2.5X and 1X settings. Construction and optical quality seemed good. I don't know if the Nikon viewer is any better, but it just wasn't convenient to use.

I use it mainly for macro shots. Works great especially with the magnifying. I wish they made a magnifier without the 90 degree bend too! It's a little loose on the eye piece or I'd definitely give it 5/5.

Great convenience

I had put off buying a right-angle viewer because of mixed reviews re: fit. But the Hoodman model comes with several adapters and the one for my Canon 40D fits snugly and is easy to install and take off. It works well at both 1x and 2.5x magnifications, though I have to adjust my diopter each time I use it and readjust it when I return to normal viewing. I no longer feel like a contortionist when I take low to the ground shots. I also like the swivel feature; it really is handy for portrait-oriented shots. Excellent product.

Not great, but sometimes helpful
By johnmcdonVerified Purchaser from Cartersville/Montecatini on 7/10/2008
Pros:
360 swivel, Easy To Use, Lightweight
Cons:
Not Functional
Best Uses:
Macro Photography, Panorama
Describe Yourself:
Getting Started
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I have only tried it a couple times, and it looks ok at the 2.5x setting, just barely gets in focus. It does crop corners at 2.5x but it's not too bad. Unfortunately I can not get a clear view at 1x, the camera adjustment did not compensate so it is extremely blurry, with or without my glasses. The 1x is also quite small. It needs focusing built in for my use. For awkward camera positions when you can't get a view, it is very handy and sometimes even indispensable. I am between Yes & No for a recommendation, it does work, but not like it should. (using it on a Nikon D200 & D300)

Durable, Easy To Use, Improves Product Function
Best Uses:
Macro Photography
Describe Yourself:

As macro photography is my main endevor i find the this right angle finder indispensable, there are many situations such as getting close to the ground, where you would otherwise be in a contorted position , the Hoodman right angle finder when combined with a tripod and remote release is a tremendous asset i also do alot of table top maco work with a copy stand, the right angle finder puts you in a good position that keeps the work right in front of you, the 2x magnification is a tremendous aid in critical focusing.Keep up the good work

When you get to be an old fart it is hard to twist around to get the camera in a perfect spot for the perfect picture, especially doing macro photography. The Hoodman is perfect for enabling the physically challenged "mature photographer" to correctly position the camera.

The world is not all at 5'8"!This is a way to get DOWN!The ease of obtaining perspectives offered by this viewfinder is what it is all about. Very well made with bright adjustable optics - the Hoodman allows you to easily get a new birdseye, dogseye whatever view - get those sweeping perspectives with your fisheye from ground level, shoot around corners without ( almost ) being seen and get critical focus with the 2.5x magnifier. It should be included with any new camera purchase - remember the removable prisms of the Nikon F2? This is the next best thing

Fabulous w/ a slight flaw
By Nurse HelenVerified Reviewer from Golden CO on 7/2/2007
Pros:
Durable, Easy To Use, Improves Product Function, Lightweight
Cons:
Adapter falls off easily
Best Uses:
Macro Photography, Traveling
Describe Yourself:
Hobbyist/Enthusiast, Semi-Professional
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I have taken lots of flower macro picture over athe years and until now have ended up laying in the dirt or other not flattering postions. This slip-on gadget solved the problem of not being able to see through the viewfinder while using a short tripod. It also swivels so you can take vertical shots. The only "con" is the adapter doesn't lock on, so it easily falls off when you disconnect from the camera. The set includes multiple adapters, but only one in each size. I would prefer to order the adapter separately.

I was hoping/expecting that it would serve more like the monitor of the CP8800 or Olympus 330.
Much more difficult to use than I expected. But it is very well made and adaptable to many different cameras.
