I had wondered if a film-type protector would be better then the Sony heavy plastic -- until I dropped the A850. It hit a counter top on the way down. The protective cover latch broke, but the LCD was protected from damage as expected. This order was a for a replacement cover. A film protector would have provided zero protection in this incident.
