Comments about Adorama Adorama Vertical Grip for Canon Digital 20D/30D with 2 BP-511 Type Lithium-Ion Batteries:

I was sold a Targus vertical grip compatible to the Canon EOS 30d digital camera from Adorama. After using the vertical grip approximately 7 months the camera would not turn on or off. (Would not work) Following protocol I sent the camera along with the vertical grip to Canon. Canon sent me the camera along with the vertical grip and a handwritten all in Bold Capital letter, "Do not use any other vertical grip other than Canon it is what is breaking the camera." Buyer Beware. Canon was aces in customer service. [...]

Adorama's model fit perfectly, and as an owner of the Canon equivalent, I can say this certainly matches the build quality and familiarity of controls. The only problem I experienced was with an awkward slide compartment that holds the batteries. Occasionally it makes the batteries slide into their positions incorrectly and you can't close the door.

Truth be told, it's not a design flaw as much as a difference from the Canon model I was used to. After a few changes, I never made the mistake again.

Seriously, Adorama. Top notch!

Comments about Adorama Adorama Vertical Grip for Canon Digital 20D/30D with 2 BP-511 Type Lithium-Ion Batteries:

There is a push in switch located in the upper battery door opening recess that seems not to want to engage when you shut the battery door. The door should have some sort of hump opposite the switch but doesn't so I have attached a small piece of cardboard on the battery door opposite said switch and it works ok. Even with this rather poor remedy the device stop working now and then and has to be disconnected and reconnected in order to reboot itself which I am trying to live with. I have contacted Targus to see if there warranty is worth anything. Will see. Do yourself a big favor and get the Canon. Batteries are good.

THE THING DOESN'T WORK AND IS NOW STUCK TO MY CAMERA!!!!!

I just put this junk on my camera and now it won't come off. This is the Targus grip and is made of cheap low quality plastic. The dial that turns the screw that goes into the tripod mount has stripped out and will not loosen the screw to take the grip off. Not only that, but it does not work! The only way I can get the unit to power my camera is by applying pressure on the battery door.

Be wary of this product and stay away. I really wish I had gotten the Canon one instead. It looks like I'm stuck with this one now since it will not come off my camera!
