This battery is great with my Nikon D80 SLR camera. It has outstanding staying power for taking 100s of shots without recharge. I purchased this as a backup for the battery that came with the camera, now I will never run out of juice while taking lots of pictures at family gatherings or on vacation. The price was OK but could be lower if the battery were not propritary.

I purchased this as a second battery for my new Nikon D-300 since my two batteries for my D-70 do not work with the D-300, i.e. are not "forward" compatible. However, this battery is "backward" compatible. This battery works fantastic, lots of juice to it and it is always best to go with Nikon brand name regarding batteries.

I bought a couple more of these to go in my new MB-D80 Grip. I was really tempted to buy cheaper brands and/or used units, but I have heard of too many issues from that and I made that mistake a few years back with a laptop battery... Anyway, I am glad I bought the real deal because now I am confident my battery meter will be accurate and my charger will work properly. Go ahead and buy this battery. It may be more pricey but after all it is a NIKON!

Only have the one that came with my D80, but will be ordering another soon. Great Battery, recharges fast. After having read many folks say they only get 400 or so shots off this battery, I must be lucky. I shoot both RAW and JPEG (fine) formats all the time, and on my last vacation trip, I took over 1200 shots that trip, without a single recharge, and still had a bar left on the indicator. Roughly a third of the pictures using the on camera flash, and review each after the shot. Great battery, but I'm buying a second simply to use in the MB-D80 battery grip.

These extra battery packs until recently have been in short supply. Lots of places will try to sell you equivalents (off-brands) - DONT DO IT! This latest offering from Nikon for their latest generation DSLR's is tops and has built in intelligence to communicate with the camera. On a D80 I would get about 600 shots per charge - on a D300 it is appraoching 800.

With the increased sophistication of today's Li-Ion batteries, I have stayed with original equipment instead of taking a chance with third party batteries. At the end of the day, there's no reason to risk your expensive camera trying to save a few bucks on the battery, right? This battery works as advertised. I never have to think about it - load, shoot, replace with spare, recharge, repeat. That's as it should be.

I have used my camera for several days on one battery charge. Of course, I haven't shot thousands of images like the big-time pro's do. However, on one occassion, I shot over 700 images in one day with one battery. I think that's pretty good, don't you?

Battery life is excellent, so long as you don't use a VR lens. I bought my D200 with the 18-200mm VR, which is phenomenal, and I leave the VR function on most of the time and notice significantly less battery life per charge. Knowing this though, makes it easy to conserve the charge on only battery I have. It sure would be nice if I could find a spare.

I need backup batteries for D200 and D80 as these are my favorite and I use them most. But can't get batteries anywhere, extremely dissapointed. I guess I should have bought Canon when I went digital at least I could get batteries, disappointed in Nikon.

Can't get a spare (that I don't need)
By Dave from OKC (misplaced Texan) on 9/15/2006
I haven't actually counted the number of shots from a single charge, but I have no complaints other than I can't get a spare for piece of mind. The only time it went dead on me was when I was on vacation attending a wedding. The pro photographers left after a couple of hours, so I shot the remaining FOUR HOURS PLUS on a battery I had already been using for OVER 2 DAYS! I cannot remember when I last charged it because I only planned on taking a few shots here and there. I had an external flash on a D70s at the reception & got over 400 shots (at the reception alone) on large/fine setting (I NEVER use RAW) with plenty LCD reviews. The battery finally died about 5 minutes before they kicked everyone out of the reception hall. To this day, the couple says thier favorite pics are ones I took because I was there, shooting the whole time. OK, so it might not get 1800, but if you shoot anywhere near that much, you are probably a pro who should be well-prepared. Just pop it in the charger the night before or after a big day and you will be fine! Hey Nikon, I STILL want a back-up though!

battery good, availability bad
By slatephoto from framingham, ma on 9/9/2006
i think the battery is fine. but its definitely an issue when Nikon switches most of its cameras to this one model of battery and neglects kicking its production into high gear.
now many of us are stuck trying get spares for our real-world usage of the battery.

Battery is fine and the D200 is GREAT
By David from Atlanta, GA on 9/9/2006
The battery is giving me fine results. Of course, I planned ahead when I learned it was a new battery, so I ordered my D200 with 2 spares. Today I shot 250 JPGs (Large, Normal, Ch) studying many on the LCD and I have 67% battery life left. With my MB-D200 the meter didn't move in an entire day of shooting. Enjoy your D200 and stop worrying about the battery life.

Battery too hard to find--big problem!
By Jeff from Sarasota, FL on 9/5/2006
Nikon has not made this battery widely available and the EL-EN3 will not work in the D200. None of the other major battery makers such as CTA seem to have production lines for a comparable substitute. This is a big problem for owners of the new D200 and I believe the D80.

This battery is great! Not misleading
By Gabe Cheek from Indianapolis, IN on 9/5/2006
Pros:
Nice Features and Settings
Best Uses:
Professional Work
This battery has given me the performance I require. I have read other reviews claiming it doens't take 1800 shots.. but it does... of course not with the LCD or internal flash on... but I use an SB-800 LCD off for most my shots... High Quality RAW&JPEG Fine Large and fill up my card numerous times on a single charge. I have a spare that I have yet to need on a shoot..

Cons:
Nowhere near 1800 shots
Nikon advertises this battery as being able to last for 1800 shots. However, this is extremely misleading. The only possible way to get anywhere near the advertised number of shots is to take low resolution photos, turning off the LCD altogether, and backing off on other settings.
For most photographers, plan on 250-400 shots max using your LCD and shooting in RAW.
