I have owned for 3 weeks now, and am very impressed with the results I get with this camera. The auto features make it simple to use for beginners, yet the creative modes let you do almost anything you can think of for Intermediates and Pros. I would Recommend Highly.
Also BUY from ADORAMA, they offer great prices on Legitimate goods. Not like some of the scamsters.

I love the camera. It's fast, quiet, with lots of features. Sure, it's heavy, but I'm hoping/figuring that makes it more durable.
What I am unhappy with right now is the self-cleaning sensor: it doesn't do a darn thing. I had massive, obvious dust spots show within 60 pictures. Canon's suggestions of only increased the number of dust spots. So now, after having the camera just 3 wks, I have to send it to a professional.

I upgraded from a Rebel XTI which do not get me wrong is a fine camera, but the noise free shots from the 40d is well worth the upgrade.
Very smooth, quite operation.
Also I would like to praise Adorama for not using
any up sales tatics or any pressure sales at all

The control options are incredible and offer just about everything a beginner or advanced amateur could want. There are so many great features that it takes a good deal of study and use to learn how to use them all. Battery life is lenghthier, too, as opposed to the earlier Canon DSLR's. In full RAW mode, infinity images are superb. Within 50 feet, I find the images to be of poor resolution and Adorama was even kind enough to exchange my first 40D body for a new one, but the problem still exists with three different lenses, two Canon and one wide angle Sigma. Canon only told me to send it at my cost to NJ for "repair." Canon did not reply to my second e-mail after I received my new 40D body from Adorama and complained that I still could not get good resolution from 50 feet on in. New firmware made no difference. Firmware update is more difficult to accomplish than with earlier DSLR's. Very displeased with image sharpness except at great distances. Would not recommend to anyone as long as this sharpness problem exists. My D60 is far sharper.
I picked this model over the d200 and glad i did.I don't think you can get a better camera for the money. You feel like you have a film slr in your hands. [...]

This is just a great camera, nice solid feel to it, really fast drive at 6.5 fps easy to use controls.

This is the best Canon released yet in the 10d,20d,30d lineup. Excellent Machine.
Nice camera, good features should have been on the market long ago. The live view is really great for macro shots. After you see this LCD size you will not go back. Auto focus is really fast.
I've been waiting for this, as wanted an upgrade to my 350D. I am VERY pleased with it. It is rugged, feels great in my hands, sounds great & has some great features, such as highlight protection, HUGE ISO range, massive rear screen, larger viewfinder, customisable settings (Yes, they ARE useful), 6+ fps if you want it.
If you are looking to upgrade from a 20D or 350D - go for it. I'd even consider it if I had a 30D, having used one for a few weeks.

I upgraded to the 40D from the XTi because I wanted the faster AF time and lower high ISO noise.
While the noise doesn't appear to be any better than the XTi's almost everything else is. The spot metering, the much faster low light AF, the size, the balance, the larger LCD. I particularly like the lower shutter noise, this was one thing that bugged me about the XTi.
If you have an XTi and shoot sports I highly recommend you sell your XTi and pick up the 40D.

I was using 10D, 1DII, 5D, XTi and now 40D
I like the big screen and dust seal. New menu easy to access. Screen too close to the left edge. I would like to see button on the left like Nikon D300 and move screen to the middle. Vertical grip still ugly as Canon 10D, 20D, 30D never re-design (And not smooth handle like Nikon D300 or Pentax K10D)and also Canon 40D vertical grip and wireless grip too expensive. Auto focus better than 30D. So far I didn't get the back focus problem yet. But it'll come for sure some day in low light, inside the church, group shot then you may find some back focus. Overall it's good for price.

Love this camera, I have the 5D and I was hoping for a faster FPS camera with the same image quality. I feel confident the 40D will be exactly that. Beware if you set the Highlight tone priority, it locks the ISO expansion at 200-1600. Don't overexposure your shots with this camera,or you'll get nasty yellow images. Learn to use it and you'll love it too.
