As a test I ran it against the starry sky with long exposure. Don't notice any noise. Will test again to see how the lense handles the edges.
For day to day use I have not seen any problem with the wide angle. With Canon's SW, underexposed area can be adjusted to show detail, which proves its sensitivity at the low end.
