Takes point and shoot to a very high degree. I should have purchased this camera ten years ago. :)
Son-in-Law recommended it. Great Son-in-Law.

WOW! Great camera for the price tag. I moved up from a Rebel(original). Canon knows how to make a camera for a photographer. This camera is solid, a nice weight keeps it steady and sure in your hands. The controls are well laid out and simple to use after about 30 min of playing. The customizable menus are great, what a time saver.
I use this for landscape photos and my nephews. It's solid enough for the wilderness and the image quality is outstanding even though it's only 10.1 mp, my only complaint. Once I saw the images I really couldn't complain much, I just think that with the competition, Canon should have increased mp's. Photographing my three nephews....outstanding, this camera is fast and silent, focus' quick and at 6.5 fps I don't miss an expression.

This is a rugged performer with enough bells and whistles for the average pro. The quality of the images that it produces are top shelf, and for the money, there is not a better camera in its class. The 40D is simple to use, the menu system takes about a week to learn, and any cam that can shoot 6.5 fps will be around for the long haul.
I have personally found that the autofocusing system of the camera is about 70% accurate, and the images that it produces generally require a bit of sharpening. That being said, both are relatively easy fixes via the cam or external software. All in all, the Canon 40D has the most bang for the buck via any dSLR on the market today!

I switched from the Pentax *ist D and I can't be more happy. The 40d is fast and rock solid. Its menu system is big but easy to learn. I really like the MY MENU, great for getting somewhere fast. Great images with low noise. I just got the Canon 50mm f/1.4 and it rocks on this camera. My Pentax did me good and its long in the tooth now and what a difference 3 years makes. If your camera is anything older then a Canon 30d then get the 40d you will be happy. If you got the 30d get the 40d, its a good upgrade that doesn't cost to much. If you got the 5d the 40d will give it a run for the money.

I have been shooting Digital since they first hit the market. I jumped in head first with this new camera and a new 70-200 L series lens WOW what a combo and outstanding quality. You will not be disappointed. in fact there are numerous reviews about this camera being as good if not better in IQ (Image Quality) as the Canon 5d. And I see them as being true! Not much more to say except this one is a home run for sure...

Just upgraded my XTi to the 40D. Very impressed with the camera, its very fast and easy to customize to the users taste. If you do any tripod work you will really like the live view which makes sharp focusing of telephoto lenses with a teleconverter a snap. Its a super deal for all the features the camera has. Favorite features: bright view finder, 6.5 fps (you'll never miss a smile again), customize user menu, live view for telephoto shots, picture quaility is great (no big change over XTi), nice firm feel to the camera. You won't be disappointed if you like shooting fast action or like to use a tripod all the time.
