Very reasonable price to upgrade from a 30D and a40D to two 50D. Used to photograph motorsports with lens range from 12mm to 500mm. Pixel count improvement over 30D / 40D allows for eaiser cropping of images.

I bought the Canon 50D mainly to take bird photos so have not taken many photos with the kit lens. Both the camera and lens appear brand new. I have taken more than 1000 pics in the last month and have no complaints re camera or this lens.

This is my first DLSR after parting from my film SLR about 7 years ago. I was tired of point and shoots and was ready to take the plunge. Very happy with my choice.

I will be using this purely for enjoyment and as a hobby. I do plan on hiking with it which will be heavy, but the more solid build of this model over those below it is worth it.

Value for money is great. Sure, it is now an "old" model but features for price seemed to be the best out there. Though it is refurbished, the body and lens are flawless in form and function. I've only had it a few weeks, so no word on if "refurbished" affects the life of the camera.

There is no video capture function. I've never used that in point and shoots so I will not miss it here.

I upgraded from a Canon Digital Rebel xti, so there has been an adjustment period with this camera. The locations of features on the menu, various buttons and dials, and even information on the display change around from model to model, especially as you move up towards the nicer (and more expensive) models. I am retraining my muscle memory from using my old camera, and I'm glad to say that this one is simple enough to learn, once I manage to break myself of my old habits!
Shooting low-light action has been a challenge, as the autofocus seems to lag slightly.
I like the weight to this camera, as it feels sturdy and rugged, but I can also see where hiking with this or carrying it around for a long period of time could become wearisome. I quickly switched to a neoprene neckstrap from another camera, and it fixed this problem in an instant!
Great camera in its price line, and the refurbished models are definitely a great buy! I'm sad they've discontinued this one, but that also means you may find lower prices on them.

This is my 1st Refurb. & the kit looks to be in mint condition. I traded up from a Canon 40d same lens kit. My old 28-135 lens had no "lens creep" & this Refurb. 28-135 lens seems to be sharper but it has some "zoom creep". There is a BIG difference between the 40d & 50d. The 50d LCD is awesome,(that alone is worth the upgrade), better Auto ISO, faster focusing due to upgraded DIGIC IV chip & the AF Micro adjustment, peripheral correction, HDMI output, the list goes on of how much better the 50d is. During some high speed shooting the 50d sounds a hair louder & different sounding than my old 40d did. I hope that's not a bad sign. I have not had enough time to put it through a full cycle of test IE...indoors, outdoors, day, night, sports & portraits, etc. but for now it's an awesome, great upgrade from my old 40d w/28-135 kit. I also got the New Tamron SP 70-300 VC zoom to go with the 50d refurb. kit and I'm here to tell you that the new Tamron lens BLOWS AWAY the Sigma 70-300 OS & the Canon 70-300 IS ! There is no competition ! !
So far I have a Semi-Pro 50d body and a great 2 lens setup that would take care of 90% of what anyone could ever want. And so far I'm loving all 3 pieces of photo gear. Thanks Adorama ! !

I've been into DSLRs since 2003 and the 50D is simply a great product. It's my second refurb body, the first was a 20D and it looks like brand new.
A good upgrade from the 20D I've been using for over 4 years.
High ISO performance is good but noisy over 1600 even though usable till 3200. Wouldn't go to 6400 unless there was real need to do so. 12800 if quite poor is not useless.
In every other aspect, the 50D is a powerful performer, very well built, great metering, fast and accurate focus.
Get this refurb 50D as the price is quite tempting and spend the savings on good glass and just have fun taking good photos.

I upgraded from 20D. Almost doubled sensor pixels and LCD screen size. It's as big as 5D Mark II, so as far as the body size, there's not much advantage from having 1.6x sensor. I personally like the size of 20D, a little smaller and rounder. But its colors and high ISO capability is much improved compared to 20D. If you're used to the menu handling of 5D Mark II, you should no problem with 50D. It focuses fast. 15 megapixel is plenty enough for the most of use. High ISO (over ISO 2000) gets noisy with RAW. But it's easy to take care of it doing post production work. So far I'm happy with it. It also has a magnesium shell which is good deal if it's important for you because new 60D has a plastic body. Only question is the battery life. I've heard that you don't feel much difference from 7D. So I think getting 50D refurbished is a real good deal.

Only thing I dislike about this camera so far is the placement of the on/off switch. I feel as though it is in an awkward position. However, that is purely personal. I have yet to learn everything about this camera but everything I have used so far I have been very impressed with.

I'm glad I upgraded the from the Canon XTI. The 50D runs circles around the Old Rebel. This camera has a great feel to it. Easy to handle with Great results. IMOP this camera is an alternative to the 5D. I'll give up the Full frame for the Price.

Looked long and hard for a replacement for my old Digital Rebel. Considered the Nikon D300A, but decided to stay with Canon because I already had lenses, etc. that are compatible. Also the 50D was priced very attractively,especially this refurbished model. This is a big step up from my old Digital Rebel. More complicated to shoot, but the results have been great. Had some hesitation in buying a refurbished product, but other than the packaging, you couldn't tell it is a refurb - this camera looks and performs like brand new. No problems so far (knock wood). The 28-135 kit lens that came with the 50D actually produces some great images, but does suffer from significant lens creep, as I had read in reviews before I bought it. That is a real nuisance when I stop to check the LCD image between shots, because I have to reset the zoom. Other than that, I'm happy so far with this camera and hope to get as many years of service and number of images with this 50D as I did with my old Rebel, (and with a significant improvement in image quality).

Very good camera. I decided to try "refurb" and it was a good choice. The camera is in "new" condition (the same with the lens). I am not sure about the battery life, but my previous 30D had small LCD compared to 50D so I guess it takes less juice.

What can I say, it is the 50D! You just can't beat the price on this kit. Being a referb is no reason for concern. My camera looks brand new and I really feel it is, I think I got lucky and it was one maybe pulled off the line for a check and then marked as a referb, there is no way I could tell the difference from new.

The lens is a bit of a different story, I could tell something wasn't just right with it, but small... On the lens there is a bit of a rub mark on the writing over the lens end. But with that said, the lens takes great photos and a better point it has "no creep" what so ever, where ever you set the zoom it stays right there, could change later and loosen up.

I am very happy with both Camera and lens.

I added a bit of a silly photo below... My little girl for some reason likes "big" Florida Grass Hoppers. I am not a great picture taker as of yet and this was just a "point and shoot it" photo. 100% crop.

The picture I'm showing is made with the kit lens.

A heavy, and somewhat bulky camera. Plan on lifting weights to prepare yourself if you plan to use some heavy glass. I moved up from an XTi, and this body is quite a bit bigger.

Sharpness is supurb. I can't wait until I get my macro lens!

Other than the "referbished sticker" on the bottom of the camera, and that it comes in a white box, you would never know that it is referbished. The box is even factory sealed. There were absolutely no use or wear marks on either the camera or the lens. If you were to set this next to a brand new unit (without looking at the "referbished sticker" on the bottom), there is absolutely no way that you could tell this unit and the new unit apart. In some respects, a factory referbished unit is better than a new unit due to the fact that not all "new cameras" are bench checked by a technician, whereas, all "referbished" units have been thoroughly bench checked.Aside from it looking brand new, the picture quality is fantastic. Although I have only had this camera a couple of days, I am thoroughly impressed with the image quality see the attached picture to see what I mean.[...]
