Comments about Canon Canon EOS-5D Mark II Digital SLR Camera Body Kit,- USA Warranty - with Spare LP-E6 Type Battery, Slinger Camera Bag, Flashpoint Professional Battery Grip, USB Memory Card Reader & Writer for CompactFlash Cards:
The 5D Mark II is a great camera and so far, I've got very little to complain about with regards to the camera. I was not disappointed but the body at all.
However, some aspects of the included accessories did not seem well thought out or tested. Maybe you don't care about the extras but I'm given to thinking they are supposed to act as added incentives to purchase the camera and as such, I would have expected they would have at least worked as a kit, which it turns out, they don't.
The biggest offender, the extra battery that's included won't charge with the Canon battery charger. I have no way to charge or use this extra battery at all, unless I go buy an additional third-party charger. It turns out canon has a chip in their batteries (to better communicate charge info to the camera and charger say Canon) and therefore, cheap after-market batteries like this, won't charge on the Canon charger. You get what you pay for but I'm surprised that Adorama would supply an extra battery as part of a kit that can't actually be used unless you purchase an additional charger.
The CF card reader is a nice add-on. Unfortunately, the first time I hooked it up, the usb cable extension broke. I'm not kidding, the actual plastic encasing the end of the usb connector just split apart and fell off. Aside from the cheap plastic cover on the connector, the cable didn't even work. My computer wouldn't see the USB device. Fortunately you do't need the cable and can just hook up the card reader directly to the computer port. I might add, I bought a CF card reader in China 3 years ago for about 50 cents, which had better craftsmanship by the way.
The Slinger bag is not too bad. I like that it's small but you should also be aware, unless you have a pancake lens, the 5D Mark II is not going to fit in here with a lens attached. I can keep both the camera and a lens in the bag comfortably, just not attached. Therefore, I consider it a good travel bag, to take on the plane or whatever (as I usually don't travel with the lens attached to the camera in these situation anyway). but as far as the idea of hiking around and just being able to pull the camera out and take a quick shot, forget about it, cause you'll have to mess around with putting the lens on first.
You'd be better off using one of the triangular shaped camera bags for that purpose. This slinger bag just isn't shaped right for a camera with a lens on it.
As for the grip, I've had no problems with it as of yet and so far seems to be the best bonus of the kit. I've read some poor reviews of it on other sites but it works great for me. As soon as I can buy the charger for the extra battery, I'll be using the grip more often. Aside from having two battery slots, there is also an adapter for AA batteries as well. The grip seems to be the silver lining in the kit accessories here.
In conclusion, I feel that the grip and to a certain extent, the bag, were worthy incentives. The rest, not so much.
In other words, great Camera and worth the price but don't put too much stock in the accessories offered in this kit. I was especially disappointed by the extra battery.
