I purchased this camera for my office. I personaly have a E-1 and E-3. For the price, you cannot beat the Evolt 510. Many of the features of the pro line camera for a fraction of the price. I have recommended this camera to three of my friend and they all love it.

This is the second Olympus camera that I have own and neither have disappointed me. I switched from using a Nikon DSLR to the Olympus E-510 and I am very satisfied with my choice to do so. The shutter lag is very low, the frame per second rate is good (and faster than the Nikons you will get for this price). The built in anti dust sensor is very well effective and activates every time you turn it on. The Image Stabilizer is really good and is effective.. Most say it works up to 1/15 shutter speed but I have been shooting since I was a kid and can hold it to 1/5. Just make sure you turn off the IS while on a tripod, and when you turn the camera off with the IS on it will make a shaking sound.. don't worry, it's normal.
The only problem I have found so far is that it has trouble focusing in low light, but I have also heard that this is due to the two kit lenses available with this model and the E-410. I will be going for a Zuiko 12-60mm to correct this problem soon. Also, the white balance is a little off but that can be fixed manually and because of the 2X crop sensor in the four thirds system you get noise in the photo at higher ISOs. I try to keep the ISO at 400 maximum and use compensation to lighten then photo.
Bottom line- This camera is well worth the money, it's light, it's durable, produces great images and has more features than any other in it's price range. This camera is easily comparable to a Canon 30D which you will pay a lot more for and have to pay LOTS of extra $$ to get IS on each lens instead of in the camera.

This is a great Camera, at a little price. First you have 10MP for high-resolution photos. Image Stabilizer so you don't end up with blurry pictures. Top that off with live preview for the high or low shots. And don't forget the dust reduction sensor, it eliminates dust for spotless photos. You can spend more on a camera but for me this works just Perfect.

The E-510 is my third Olympus camera, and it is fabulous in every regard -- and a definite step up from the #-300, which I also really like. I studied all the reviews and competitors before I finally settled on this one, and I'm so glad I now own it!

I am just a mom that has a new baby and two other kids. They are only young once and decided to splurge to get a good quality camera.I did a lot of research and found that this E-510 had it all. I really wanted a camera to take telephoto pictures. I am tired of not getting my kids expressions, but getting a far away picture with no detail. The ability to use live viewfinder or use the regular viewfinder was great. Also the image stabilization will be a great help when I am taking pics with the telephoto at TBall games and school concerts.[...]

I purchased the camera 2 weeks ago [...]and it has been travelling with me all the time since. So the weight is clearly not a problem - with the kit lens (14-42mm), the 35mm f3.5 and the flash, my gear weighs a combined 1.5kg only.What impressed me most is clearly the Image stabilisation. The weight of the camera and the combination with the lens is optimal (contrast to E-410 which is too light) and clearly Olympus spent a lot of time and effort to put the combo together in a balanced way. Together with the sensor-based IS (which works perfectly), I have not experienced any blurred image due to camera shake - and neither does my 7-year-old daughter!The camera almost starts instantaneously (after the dust removal system works) and the handling has been very intuitive. At first I thought that the learning curve is steep due to the Live View - Not true! It just adds more fun (makes the DSLR handles like a compact without the noisy sensors!) and after all you don't really have to turn on Live View if that's bothering you. Live View helps the focussing especially in macro-photography.My only little comment is the AF which is only 3-points compared to the competitions. But other than that this gem is very very superior to Canon and Nikon at the same price bracket. Given the fact of the sensor-based IS & the excellent line-up of four-thirds lenses (Zuiko, Leica and Sigma) I think the E-510 is a very good starting point of not only a DSLR but a whole system. I plan to purchase a few lenses before I upgrade to the E-3. But I will definitely keep the E-510 for the general purpose photography.For those who are looking to spend around under $800 for the camera, I really can't see a better choice than the E-510 Kit. This is a wonderful camera, having the E-500 this was the next upgrade. I got it for the Image stabilization but discovered so much more. The live preview is great for shooting over your head.
The 10MP blows other cameras photos away and at 3 frame a second it will shoot till your finger falls off(or your card fills up).

Olympus continues to amaze me. I Started with an OM2N film camera and now have the E-510. This camera is light, quick, comfortable and easy to learn.I am an amatuer who does weddings and scenic photography. The images POP out crisp & clean.
