Comments about Oregon Scientific Oregon Scientific DS6310 Point & Shoot 3MP Digital Camera with Cradle, 1.5" Screen 4x Digital Zoom - Red:

I purchased this camera for my 5 yr. old son for Christmas because it was the most economical camera that had a few megapixels (i.e. it was cheap and had 3MP). It feels like a piece of junk, it is incredibly light-weight and small (which some may appreciate but I interpret as poor quality), the 3MP are not the "effective" megapixels, it's the pre-interpreted pixels (there's probably a term for it but I don't know it), and the LCD screen is also horrible, very, very poor image quality.

On the other hand, I have not been able to find a digital camera with a few megapixels that is cheap enough to feel comfortable giving to a 5 yr. old boy. I have searched high and low and the next best camera jumps up into the $100-plus range. The alternative is a 1MP "toy" digital designed for children, better structural integrity, but again, only 1MP (which I did purchase for my other son who is 3 yrs. old). you would think that as cheap as electronics are that you would be able to get a half-decent digital camera for a kid.
