I would give this 4.5 if i could.
The only minor con is that in shooting mode it is too easy to change the over/under exposure setting without realising it.

Faultless performance. The extra 16mm F2.8 lens is very sharp and great for social shots.

Camera had old version of firmware and upgrade instructions on Sony website were not very precise for Mac OS X. Camera locked up during upgrade and had to be sent to Sony Service before one photo was taken. [...] I'm happy to be using it now.

I was going to buy a full size DSLR but realized that carrying it around to take photos of my kids would be impractical. The NEX 5 has been perfect. The auto focus and shutter is very fast. The battery lasts a long time and it is easy to take videos too. I bought the 18 to 200 zoom lens too which makes up for the limitations of the lens that comes with the camera.

The Sony NEX-5 with the 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 lens,
can realy handle almost any situation. I find myself using this lense the most and get great pictures,artistic quality up to 11x24 inches with a good quality photo printer
