I bought a G9 for a good quality compact that I could carry everywhere with me. Not too sure about the camera yet (!), but this adapter works great. I keep a polarizing filter attached to it and then put it on my G9 when I need it. I have seen comments about this one being plastic, but this makes it lighter to carry and it is well made. It is just a bit too large to keep on all the time and fit in my small carry everywhere bag, but it needs to be this size to function properly. I have not used it with the Wide angle or Tele conversion lenses yet. But it works great with the polarizer. There are no instructions on how to attach. Make sure to line up the white dot on the adapter with the faint dot just above the button on the camera then twist on until it clicks.

The LA-DC58H is primarily offered as a means to attach a wide-angle adapter to a G9. For me it is a way to mount 58 mm filters. As side benefits it functions as a lens shade, alone or with additional shade, and something to hold onto the way I can with a film camera.

As a G7 owner - you need this...

To exploit all the functions of the G7 - you need this as a "coupler" - whether for the TC tele lens or WC wide angle lense. I bought it originally to attach 58mm filters to my G7.
Yes - a lot of us still use filters besides tweaking images in PhotoShop.

Yes it blocks the optical viewfinder - but that's Canon's design flaw - if there is one in the G7.

I also bought the Canon TC lens and love it for parade and concert work. It is a good investment!
