Assembling the lens hood onto the S3 IS is very easy with the main body. It certainly works as advertised, but since it's plastic, durability (if one's not careful with it) could be an issue. One can certainly store the camera with the main body of the lens hood ON inside a camera bag for an S3 IS. My only minor complaint would be that the fine threading of the spherical end attachment doesn't always thread onto the main body extension very well. However, this lens hood really is a MUST to keep out those stray rays of sun from ruining outside shots in any decent light, so it is a good investment.

This seemed to be the only adapter that fits my Canon S5 (?)and I needed it in order to use a polarizer filter.

I am using this on a Canon S5-IS and I like the look that it gives the camera, though the camera is small this makes it look almost profesional and gives the ability to attach filters and wide and tele addapter lenses. It also protects the lens, when it is extended for use, from bumps. What I don't like is having to remove a decorative ring from the camera to install, then what do i do with the ring so that i don't lose it. Also the lens shade causes a shadow in the pictures when shooting wide, this could have been eleminated if the shade was square (rectangular) instead of round. If the filter thread size had been 55mm instead of 58mm then filters would be less expensive. Would have been nice if it was made so the lens cap would work with it on the camera.

I bought the conversion lens adapter so I could add filters to my Canon S5 IS. I'm very satisfied. It's easy to use, and the filters are helpful. I'm planning to get the macro lens and the wide-angle lens that are used with it also.
It is a great way to protect your camera lens.
I rated this not durable because it's plastic, but I've not actually had any problems with durability. I keep the adapter and sunshade on my Canon S3 IS all the time. It's main problem is that it casts a shadow when the on-camera flash is used. To overcome this, one must not use the shortest focal length (36mm), but something more like 50mm. When a polarizing filter is inserted between the adapter and the shade, some vignetting occurs at the shortest focal length. A thinner filter than the one I own might avoid this problem. Despite these problems, I gave one of these to my daughter for her S5 IS.

This adapter is a real have to have product. It allows you to add lenses and filters to the camera. An absolute must for anything but the most basic of home shooting. It connects easily to the camera and is the same size as the original lens so it never needs to be removed. I use it with a UV filter as a permanent basic protector.
The lens hood is fine for outdoor or bright side light situations. However, it is bulky and you will have to remove it to use the flash. The built in flash is not high enough to work with the hood on, so you can not just leave it on. You get terrible shadowing.

This product has no downside! It enables you to attach 58mm filters, polaroid, uv haze, etc. just as you would on an expensive SLR.
It allows you to protect the camera lens and use a lens cap that works, unlike the one which comes standard on this camers.
