The Lens Cap got knocked off at a Special Olympics function. It is replacable by Googling "Nikon S4 Lens Cap". Various prices are offered.
Most these comments say the S4 is a very good camera. Why no View-Finder for sunny, glary days???
I've owned this camera for two years and think it's great. It's a replacement for a bulky Olympus C-730 that lasted until the day after the warranty expired! I've taken the Nikon all over the world and even to Antarctica. The 10x optical zoom and the compact size can't be beat. The camera and the lens cap has stood up to everything, including drastic temperature changes. The only thing the lens cap didn't stand up to was being knocked off my bed and landing on the hinge! The only casualty was the cap.
With all I've put this camera through, I'm willing to spring for six bucks for a new lens cap. I'll even get an extra.

Very Nice Camera, but the lens cap pin came out the first week of use, and now the ring that holds it on is broken. Nikon does not make these anymore? They are junk anyway. Nikon should have done a lot better and should design a new cap for those of us so disappointed with the CoolPix 4 lenscap that is just flimsy junk.
Nikon: you should have done better! Like all the others before me: Great camera, but really sad lense cap design! I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. The camera should have come with a spare. Nikon should give these away! This was no cheap camera! [...]
Much like everyone else here, I broke the lens cap on Nikon Coolpix S4. The hinge is so flimsy and fragile. I tried using wire-wrap and superglue but it broke after a day. I'm disappointed with Nikon for making such a lousy part for an otherwise great camera. I love my Coolpix [...]
Same as everyone else, this lens cap broke on me?twice. The first time I was able to replace it, since it broke within my first couple weeks of owning the camera. But now, a couple years later, I have no way to replace it since they are no longer producing it.
Cheap, flimsy, poorly designed lens cap insures that you will be buying replacements. After only 15 months of casual use, the cap would no longer stay closed. That's why I bought 3, because I know I will need another one in the future, and who knows if Nikon will still make them. Of course, I have to recommend it, since there is no alternative.
This lens cap is made with a thin plastic ring that snaps onto the camera. It broke within 1 week of first use.
The ring fractures at the obvious point of stress concentration near the hinge. Anyone(with a knowledge of stress and polymers)would see that this structure is too weak for the intended design. Wonder whether the designer was more artist than engineer -- focused on the concept rather than the stress analysis.
Nikon is conspicuously silent about this product on its web site...
[...] the camera is great, but my cp broke severalmonths ago and it has been impossible to replace. At first it broke at the hinge and I wired it on. then the cap around the lens base broke and now I can't do anything and have not been able to obtain a replacement. I am leery of ordering another Nikon Product. The Nikon customer service referred me to [...]to buy a replacement- [...] don't carry it (neither does anyone else have it in stock!!)
Fit perfectly.
Great camera, poor cap! Mine broke almost immediatly. Also, I have a problem moving the little knob. I hate this little joystick, it should be called a griefstick...anyway, I digress...whenever I want it to go down, it thinks I am pushing it in. So, I use quite a bit of tylenol whenever I bring out the cam.
Add me to the list. It think the cap broke within the first week. Thought I could get one through Nikon. Duh! [...]
So you buy a wonderful camera, and they give you this[...] .....Ours is broken like everybody elses...[...]
Otherwise a great camera the Nikon Coolpix S4 has a fatal flaw in its design. The lens cap was a very poor design and is guaranteed to break, the situation wouldn't be so bad but Nikon has done nothing to help its customers. I've had no reply from the company at all even though the camera is suppposed to be under warrenty. To make matters worse the company is not even producing the lens cap any more so if it breaks your on your own. I ended up gluing mine. I'm very dissapointed with Nikon and would be leary of buying any of their products if this is the customer service they give.

This is such a cheap product on a fairly expensive camera. Nikon should be looking for a better way to protect the lens. The lens cap got real loose a first then it broke at the hinge, keeping it from snapping shut over the lens. I am having trouble buying this item and am wondering if others have broken their first lens cap.
